Should we change the title of the Religion Forum to "Religion and Spirituality?
- Yes
- No
I have put the following proposal before the ILP staff and would welcome your discussion of the topic here as well.

I vote yes. There are persons here who consider themselves atheists, but are averse to dogma, not to spirituality. As a naturalist, who is also into spirituality, I respect all endeavors toward reconcilation of beliefs.
I vote yes and suggest a poll for this thread.
lol there is one!
Yep.
Spirituality could have gone into Psychology as well, but you beat them to it.
Why not simply create another one called Spirituality since at times the one has very little to do with the other.
Spirituality is fluid flowing in the moment whereas religion is often stubborn and set in stone.
I voted yes for many reasons.
It better describes the interest of the community.
It should let antagonists, which are substantial, know that narrow minds are scarce and so their argument should be refined.
But who knows…I think that many like Mutcer will continue to project “Christianity” in “Religion and Spirituality” as much as in “Religion”. To me, the change would be worthwhile if only we can get broader arguments that challenge a wide segment rather than just our faithful, if any, Christians.
yeah go for it
Then spirituality and religion are related as the thesis and antithesis of each other and could be discussed as such in this forum under the title Religion and Spirituality.
Yes
spirituality isn’t even a coherent concept, how can someone say it’s the opposite of religion?
Spirituality is just a closeted religion of people to afraid to admit to who they are.
I oppose it. If the main philosophy forum can’t be renamed the Mundane Babble forum (because that’s mostly what occurs there), then I see no reason why this forum should insert a needless hair splitting duality. Let’s just keep it simple. If it’s awkward, tough luck. You can stair at a wall, muttering about Becomming and telling everyone that despite the crucifix tattoo you have on your ankle, your not really religious, just sooooo spiritual. I get this weird crap from women from time to time, they are either just too stupid to comprehend the religion they grew up in, or too interested in skanking around to live up to it’s standards and want a man who plays to the archetype they left- their father image- and the one they want- a fun spiritual image of a man with few strings attached that will pressure them into making definitive choices over their life.
If someone is truely spiritual, but completely lacking in terms of recognizing they are religious… then they gotta go to the psychology forum. As my good friend the heavily self stereotyped Jew says ‘Honey, we don’t beleive in God. We go to Psychologists, not Priests anymore.’ And I completely agree with that sentiment… except with one caveat… she needs to visit that psychologist a little bit more. Why carry on a farce of a foreign culture of religious stipulations and taboos if you don’t believe in it anymore.
A purely spiritual person needs their head examined. Honestly… it’s stupid. Deeply stupid and misses the point of the resultant effects of spirituality… you got a religion going on. It’s why there are all these stupid philosophers stairing at walls with no results, or finishes their part in debates with phenomenological meaninglessness. Even that began as a religion… never shook the roots of it’s heritage all that well.
This is the religion forum, if you can’t handle it, head to the psych forum.
it’s 13-0 in favor and it’s been a couple days. results seem pretty clear to me
I’ve put it before the staff. Only Magsj has weighed in. I’m waiting for a quorum to decide.
13-0. that’s more votes than we even have mods on staff!
I think ‘spirituality’ covers it, inc, religion too.
Or maybe ‘spiritual philosophy’.
I like that nominative.
Of course I would prefer it was called mindless word wank and more word wank. But I have become more accepting of religion recently and spirituality, so hopelessly supernatural guff, that has no basis in fact would suit me too. j/k
Joking or not, I started off as religious, became agnostic and then abandoned my faith in the unknown when I heard the abysmal apologetics of believers. I am not trolling I am super cereal.
It’s the dialectic opposing POVs that keep a forum like this going. If we go with one side, like you are suggesting, it results in the sound of one hand clapping for himself and saying “hooray for my side”. Boring.
As Long as it doesn’t make the Moderators move Philosophy with a Spiritual bent into this part of the forum sure.
spiritual philosophy wouldn’t be so bad. It’s better than religion, and not as good as “religion and spirituality”
I don’t want that for the reason I said before, it would relegate any pholosophy with a spiritual bent to the seprate section of the forum.
