First off i wanted to say im new to this group so if this is a topic that has been beaten to death or widly accepted or what have you please dont chase me off with tourch adn pick fork.

My question is whether or not religion is a reality or just a human invention created for the comfort of living. I have recently been thinking of religion as a method by which humans have found comfort and almost a love/desire for life.
For instance if you pray to god that your husban comes home from war do you really believe that you are talking to god and he is helping your loved one survive. Or is it just a process that comforts you and puts you at ease with the unknown.
Does anyone else feel this way?

Thought itself is a human invention, created for the comfort of living. How much moreso, belief?

Religion is basically, what humans hold as ‘highest truth’.

Religions don’t require gods or prayer in order to exist.
It’s basically a community or organization of beliefs, which tends to be rather metaphysic.
