I heard a blurb on the news that Japan just unveiled a water powered vehicle? Anyone familiar with it?
Also there are ways to convert your cars to get alot more miles or to run on multiple fuels. Rather than cave into buying a brand new expensive hybrid or such. here is one such project http://www.clean-air.org/aceproject.htm buying kits will be cheaper then buying a new car and it will save money in the long run at the gas pump.
Just do a search on the net for kits and conversions that you are interested in.
What’s your point? I’m merely pointing out that the Republicans are making first indications of acquiring a backbone on the issue. The results remain to be seen.
I stand by the other things I said except I need to make one correction which is actually worse than what I originally wrote. I apologize for the inconvenience. :-"
Exxon’s overall net profit isn’t 4%, it’s profit on a gallon of gasoline is only 4 cents a gallon, which at $4 gal, gas is 1%, and even less for diesel. exxon.mobil.com/Corporate/fi … 052108.pdf
Compare that to fed, state and local taxes which average (by state) 47 cents a gallon (26 in Alaska to 64 in California). Now who is it again that’s the villain?
backbone? It takes a backbone to advocate drilling when gas prices have soared and everyone is pissed about it? No, the stance with backbone, is the one that admits the best evidence available doesn’t say drilling will do a damn thing so you’re not going to vote in favor of it. Everyone in Congress has this same information, they all know that the best info available says it is pointless, yet it is still pursued. I can speculate as to why, I think the reason is quite clear.
I’m not sure where this fits into the discussion, so I’ll just toss it out there.
I know the gas in foreign countries costs much more (Britain over $11 a gallon), and I know it’s because the taxes they have to pay on their gas is around 75% or more. So any taxes we suffer from our government is minimal in comparison.
In addition, there had to be a time in mankind’s history when the world is absolutely forced to switch from oil consumption to alternative energies. It had to happen, and it only makes sense that it would happen when the richest and most powerful country in the world is affected, and not a second sooner.
Gas taxes wouldn’t be that bad if we didn’t have 50+ different damned taxes in this country including other taxes on Exxon including corporate income taxes, which is just another government slight of hand tax on us.
