Revelation 6:12-17 and Nietzsche's Zarathustra

The sixth seal described in Revelation 6:12-17 and the fifth seal decribed by Nietzsche in The Seven Seals (in Thus Spoke Zarathustra) correspond with each other. Let us call this seal Death’s Head. I think the passages are interesting both in their similarities and differences, considering that they talk about the same thing. I might have a go at it myself in the near future.

From the Bible:

12. I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, 13. and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as late figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind. 14. The sky receded like a scroll, rolling up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place.

13. Then the kings of the earth, the princes, the generals, the rich, the mighty, and every slave and every free man hid in caves and among the rocks of the mountains. 16. They called to the mountains and the rocks, “Fall on us and hide us from the face of him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! 17. For the great day of their wrath has come, and who can stand?”

Nietzsche’s attempt:

If I be fond of the sea, and all that is sealike, and fondest of it when it angrily contradicteth me:
If the exploring delight be in me, which impelleth sails to the undiscovered, if the seafarer’s delight be in my delight:
If ever my rejoicing hath called out: “The shore hath vanished,–now hath fallen from me the last chain–
The boundless roareth around me, far away sparkle for me space and time,-- well! cheer up! old heart!”–
Oh, how could I not be ardent for Eternity, and for the marriage-ring of rings–the ring of the return?

I read Revelations so long ago I can’t recall that specific part, My bibles are locked up in a safe or packed away safely. (yea Ok sure sounds wierd but, they are old and worth some real money. I have other books locked up to, all safe and sound and in another state. there are two bibles I have here are packed away to keep them safe, they too are semi valuable prints. No I don’t recall them off hand, its been a few years since I had them appraised.)
