Rhythm Unrhymed
Above the moon, across the stars beyond
in comes, upon the song of her this night,
the light from ages past and future times,
of storms, and stress, and suffering, and strife.
He listens to the rhythm of her words,
And stumbles forth, a step outside her door
To hear the soothing music of the dark.
Within, it shines for none but him to see.
It floats upon his mind in devilish ways,
tormenting him in soft and simple notes,
Then shifts and clangs and clings and finally spills
forth secrets of its momentary death.
And bursting then in flame and searing heat,
the birth of which comes branded onto skin
as once a king, now fallen from the throne
of ancient times, of rhythms cold and dead.
From windows high and balconies of love,
come Romeos of every play before,
on bended knees, on twisted words of lust,
which through the sky sail on with devil’s grace.
The dancers fall, each anchored down with dread,
the singers screech an unforgiving note -
The nearness of the gates now in dispute,
with tower views obscured by love and fate.
