The planned for trip to Mars, beginning as a reality TV show is already being assembled with an open application for people wishing to apply for a $35 entrance fee. Al developed out of private funds. The app process will close by 2014, winners announced by 2015. Only setback there is no return ticket.
It is a sad day for civilization and culture, when our endevours for Exploration are motivated by privite interests of Entertainment.
Also try not to use the world “really” as a self evident phrase but one of genuine inquisitive reaction.
Anyhow this may be the first “Reality” show that would actually have basis in reality based on there constant need to labor and focus on their duties, less they die horribly.
The cost is an app. Fee of $39. This plus the revenue generated from the reality show will fund the transport of the first four people, which is estimated top cost upward of 6B dollars US. All winners will be thought emergency medecine, engineering. The application search will close iin 2014, and announced in 2015. Liftoff is scheduled in 2024. Just letting you know. Will find out how to get the application forms.
This better not be a scam and it better not cost too much to apply, since I don’t really have a lot of money. It sounds awesome. I can finally get off this planet, woohoo! That possibility, alone, is more than enough incentive to lay your life on the line. I’d rather die from lack of oxygen on Mars, then live on Earth bored out of my mind until old age sets in.
There’s really nothing interesting remaining on Earth anyway, if you really think about it. Everything has already been explored and conquered on Earth.
It seems like a scam so far. I’ve found almost no information about this online. If it is a scam, then it’s shameful. An opportunity like this ought to be more public, popular, and supported. If it was serious and real, I’m sure countless people will be lining up with me to apply. I plan to be the first application and the first man to step foot on Mars, one way ticket or not, makes no difference.
The promotional seems premature for now. It seems like a waste of $40, until there is more seriousness, awareness, and planning about this operation. Thus far, any Joe Blow can donate some dollars and believe he or she is a likely candidate for the position.
This is a big risk for me. If I apply for $40, that’s like investing 25% of my life’s net worth. I don’t know if poor people such as myself, are welcome on Mars. And why am I paying money in addition to risking my life? That’s confusing. Shouldn’t Space X be paying me $40 to commit suicide, for a one way trip to Mars?
Plus, people need to consider the failure rate. Is the first rocket filled with people going to even get there? I don’t want to be on a loser ship, that has a malfunction and explodes 1000 miles from touching down on Mars.
Good point. However for $40 nowadays you can't even get pay for view to a boxing match. At the very least, this is promising to be an ongoing reality show, with a possible return for your money in terms of offering hope such as those as ourselves, who feel mankind needs a new beginning, a new frontier.
It’s premature. There is no life-support station on Mars. There is not even a MacDonalds. Who could survive its winter? The fare had better be for a round trip!
I think we ought to build a way station on the moon before sending some Adam and Eve to Mars.
A round trip would negate the whole experience to an idle passtime. One must go there with no way back. Looking upon Mars as it first comes into view will make it all worth while. You could throw out all the tripe that was associated with your trip and only think of yourself as one of many people and even animals that have left there home territory for a new one, but you are the first to find the means, and means is the key word being the sole remaining fragment of the afore mentioned tripe, to travel outside of the planet to live. Don’t write a poem to commemorate the occasion, of first sight or landing, simply share the same quiet resolve that every person who has entered into new territories to live has.
