Wonderful Imp… ok perhaps it is a little sick that I sit around looking at these sites. Ok, whats the deal with people standing up during the ride- this is not only stupid but I’m sure it’s not easy to do:
“Sunday, May 26, 1985 - In an accident at Astroland Amusement Park at Coney Island in Brooklyn, New York, a 29-year-old man was killed while riding the Cyclone roller coaster. He stood up and struck his head on a crossbeam.â€
“On June 30, 1995, a fourteen-year-old girl died after sustaining a massive head injury from a 25-foot fall from the “Timberwolf” roller coaster. She was reported to have been standing or kneeling at the time of the accident.â€
“HW death due to “rider misbehaviour”
The investigation into the death of 32 year-old Tamar Fellner on the Raven roller coaster at Holiday World has determined that it was almost certainly caused by the woman herself.
The ride inspectors report states that both restraints - the lap bar and seatbelt - were working correctly, and that if Fellner had been properly seated at least one would have prevented her falling 80 feet to her death from the rear seat of the train.
Several witnesses at differing locations observed Fellner practically standing up every time the train descended a drop. Other witnesses confirmed that the restraints were manually checked before the train was dispatched. However, Fellner’s seatbelt was found to be unbuckled on the train’s return, with the ends tucked into the sides of the seat.
The report concludes by stating that Fellner placed herself in a position the coaster was not designed to accommodate, and the forces exerted on the body caused Fellner to be thrown from the train. The Raven is now open to the public again, having been given a clean bill of health.â€
“September 2001, a woman died at Knott’s Berry Farm when she was ejected from Perilous Plunge. The woman weighed 330lbs and was standing up on the drop.â€
