Santana's Michael Shrieve at Woodstock

I saw this guy for the first time last night. At the time he was a 19 year old playing drums on the same set he learned on. I am currently learning how to play drums and have been for about a month now. Mike Shrieve destroys his drum set during the solo in the video I am going to link. If you are a fan of Santana or rock music in general, watch this video up through the big drum solo, starting at about 3 minutes in. Michael Shrieve is my new idol when it comes to music.

Michael Shrieve is absolutely fantastic. He killed at Woodstock. I actually think his playing was the best thing about Santana’s set.

If you haven’t already, you might want to check out some of his solo output. “Fascination”, especially is a great album. The fact that Bill Frisell and Wayne Horvitz also played on that album certainly didn’t hurt.

OMG! Santana when he was younger :astonished:

That kinda reminds me of The Mars Volta: I’ve got a couple of their albums - perhaps that’s who they got their inspiration from.
