Schizophrenia?

i think that’s what it comes through as, but he has been diagnosed with it

Schizophrenia - like others have already stated above - is a personality split. However, this definition is somewhat very superficial.

I used to know a person who turned schizophrenic in a very young age (16).
His disease was trasnmitted genetically. I’ve always noticed that this person tended to react explosively to many things which wouldn’t bother anyone of us. Certain events like a slight arguement triggered a hysterical state in her case. After a while we started noticing odd traces of his behaviour: he could sit down and stare at one spot for hours without blinking his eyes. That was the beginning of it all. Later on he’d just lock himself in his room and start monologues which consisted threats and emotional outbreaks.
Obviously, like we found out later, he could hear voices asking him to do things and he tried to fight them asking them to go away, cursing on them. A few month later he was hopsitalized, but it was already too late. The doctors said that he should have been taken to the hospital a way earlier, but his parents were afraid of public opinion (… I won’t bother to comment …).
Now he’s 20 years old. He spends 6 days a week in the psychiatric clinic. He can still hear the voices and has hallucinations. The worst thing is that there is almost no chance for his illness to be cured.

Therefore, I suggest that a treatment should be started as early as possible. Those symptoms can be diminished by medications, but they can never be cured completely. Of course, this is just a generalization.

Thus, the only thing you can do for your friend is taking him to a doctor and give him courage and moral support.

JM: You’ve sparked my interest with your reply. Could you possibly be more specific? I believe not only faust would like to know what you went through.

my aunt has been diaognosed whit it years ago. And besides drugs there is intensive therapy to make sure people are capable of having a own life without a lot of help.
What a big mistake is about this illness is that people have a lot of personalities. This is not true. People here voices and see things that are not their (hallusinating).

What in your opinion could a personality split be?

Someone’s personality splits in several, which start interfering with the main one and lead to occurrence of those ‘voices’ and ‘vision’.

By the way, has anyone seen the movie called ‘Identity’? It provided me with a vivid example of a mind suffering from schizophrenic disorder.
