There should be a scoring system in this website. I’ve seen others have it. Sort of like a feedback system so you’d have points, and you be totally cool if you had a thousand points and some schmuck did not. Then you could talk down to that poor schmuck, seeing as you are blessed with the power of pointage.
Forums are best not rendered into reward attainment leveling systems borrowed from game structures such as MMORPG’s or FPS’.
I would say this has never been done well in sites that are not revolved around gaming, or ranking as a central focus.
Since this site is about discussion, it seems very distracting to place a value system next to a name to judge whether or not the person is of any interest to read or respond to.
This being said, I could understand a scoring option being used in reference to debates won and lost, but this should not be confused over competency of thought; only efficiency in written debate.
This too may prove to be too little of a niche to apply to the entire site for such a small selection of users (by percentage).
No.
It always ends up with people ‘pointing’ those with whom they agree. A real daisy chain. And it is meaningless vanity, and there seems to already be plenty of that!
A popularity contest?
There are no redeeming values.
It has always devolved into meaninglessness.
And we gain nothing of substance.
Occam says;
Nay!
Yes but its just a popularity contest and doesn’t reflect much, often the value of members and any contribution gets lost amongst those who are able to tell good fart jokes and kiss ass. Plus of course it just creates endless debates around why johnny numb nuts has such a low score and Bobby Brown tongue has such a high score… And someone told me I was a tard and… Someone keeps on repeatedly scoring me down… I suspect some people have formed a circle jerk and are just artificially boosting scores… Really it causes more trouble than its worth to moderators and is often less indicative than post total is of anything, which doesn’t stop people from taking it all too seriously.
