Scotish Independence anyone?

How long before the border skirmishes start again?

I think it’s for the best.

There is a significant North/South discrepancy in wealth, which is somewhat mitigated by the Union.
Scotland will sink away.
It will soon learn that the social policies now enjoyed by Scots will no longer be affordable when the Union fails.
The only way Scotland will be able to mitigate the disaster of Independence is with further union with Europe; a policy endorsed by the National Party.

Independence is nothing more than division and xenophobia; pandering to the worst racist instincts of human kind.

One time I took a bus from Manchester to Glasgow and back to London. I couldn’t tell the difference between the two countries until I heard someone try and speak English in Scotland, and then I knew I was back in England when I saw London on the horizon.

So I guess sure. I mean let em be independent. Why not? Most people in the rest of the world don’t even know they aren’t. I’m not even sure I knew for sure they weren’t. I seriously thought that the UK was like one big place and that England and Scotland were it’s states.

No, I didn’t think that.

How long before you learn how to spell ‘Scottish?’

Apologies extended. Some people just rub each other the wrong way.

If Scotland feels it can stand alone without England, it should be allowed to do so. They were separate countries sharing an island once, why can’t they be again? Why can’t Ireland be free of England? :-"

They want their cake and eat it. The Scottish National Party has recently announced that Scotland would keep the pound, and the UK benefits system, currently paid for largely by England. There’s a very good chance that the English will tell them to stuff it. The pound, for example, has been the official English currency for over 1,200 years. The old Scottish pound, which was scrapped in 1707 when Scotland was brought into the union, was only worth one twelfth of the English pound. As for the benefits system, Scotland is a net beneficiary of English taxation.

The Scots are a canny people, especially when it comes to money. That’s why all opinion polls show only about 30% of them favour independence. The SNP is hoping to woo the 20% undecideds to give them a wafer thin majority.

I can spell Scottish.

It seems to me that Scottish/English Union is a great success.
There is a good reason why the current PM has a Scot’s name, why the previous one was a Scot with an English name and why the one before him also had a Scot’s name; integration works.
Some of the UK’s most successful people have been from Scotland and have been allowed to come and go as they please. It would be a sad day were we to split.
