Last night at around 10min past 11pm I started to hear this screaming, a sort of repeated shriek. Like a human female screaming in horror, but not quite. Almost like a repeated deer scream “Eaaanghhhhh!” like that.
Basically, it sounded between a human screaming and an animal screaming in pain (somthing which I imagine a human in pain may sound like)
anyway, the noise went away until about 11:25-11:30 where it started again, louder, more frequent, for a longer interval anyway, this happened on and off for quite sometime, up till like 12:30+ (I had fallen asleep at like 12:00 and was woken up by it more than once after that)
What kind of animal sounds like a human screaming in pain without words + a bit of a repeated deer shriek too it. Animals around here include, things like deer, coyote, rabbits, etc.
i really wanted to call the cops, but thought these other people here would. (no one ended up calling the cops) I seriously hope we don’t hear about a missing person’s case or a murder any time soon.
hope we didn’t sit here and listen to someone get stabbed to death. There was no bodies in any easy-to-see ditches or animal corpses outside from where the noise was coming from.
(theres a house where the noise might have came from, one day walking to the store, we noticed this pool of blood on the road like someone had been clubbed in the face)
So, any animals make human screams or? I’ve heard a lot of animal screams, and this was unique.
So I was talking to some of the other people that live here, and after I went to sleep they claim they heard someone screaming ‘no’. I hope their wrong about that, because we only got around to calling the cops this morning.
i feel like a piece of shit for going to sleep, because I would have called at that. If someone is fucked up because we didn’t call the cops, thats going to be hard to live with for me.
Rabbits scream a human scream when in fear or dying. A coyote probably was hunting a rabbit and had it trapped. Coyotes can scream an ungodly human sound too when injured. Most likely animal for the length of time you describe are male cats, a female cat is probably in heat in your neighborhood this will draw males around and then screams of a human sound will commence as the challenges begin. If the cops find out that it was not human then the above three are the most likely answers.
those are all small possibilities. Keep in mind I know what all these animals sound like dying/hunting. (Still could have been one creating abnormal noises but i doubt it) and unless those animals understand can speak english, it wans’t. People heard “Nooo noooo noooooOO!!!” coming from a house up the road.
Like, a few months back we had some bunnies in the yard, their mother had probably died (some sick rabbit we found) but maybe it had a different mother. WE heard screams that night, I said “rabbits are getting slaughtered” next day, we found a bunch of rabbit skin, somthing had literally shredded the skin from their bones.
probably raccoons or coyotes, but anyway, it wasn’t a traditional deer, rabbit, or coyote scream. (animals which i’m familair with)
maybe like, an abnormal noise from those, but it sounded a lot more like a human.
We called and the cop place and they said they had No other reports of people hearing the noise. Which is fucked up, even if it was an animal, people around here usually report things like these screams. Cops were going to go around asking people later today.
Now here’s a cut and dried example of fucked up society. A woman screams, someone goes to sleep.
Crowd psychology. Sit and wait for the crowd decision. Do not expose yourself to risk if no-one else is. Post-hoc confabulate to soothe the immaculate self.
Shame on us.
Cyrene, next time you hear a scream, don’t wait. Do something. The life you save may be your own one day.
“But, but Tab - they’d probably have killed me too…”
“Maybe - In that case go do some martial arts, learn some first aid - do the American thing and buy a handgun - prepare. Or organize an informal neighborhood watch. Safety in numbers. And anyway, how do you know she wasn’t just a hit and run victim…?”
“But but Tab - no-one else bothers, why should I…?”
“Why shouldn’t you…? Martial Arts make you healthy; first aid is always good to know, and isn’t difficult to learn; Guns are cool, they go bang and everything; neighborhood watches unite people, allow you to meet new friends and make you feel important, and safe.”
“But but Tab - shit happens all the time, it wouldn’t make any difference in the long run.”
“Well then, inaction is a choice and you deserve the society you have helped create. I hope it chokes you.”
It is sad that this thread might be the only epitaph some poor bastard gets.
But hey, let’s just hope it was a deer huh…? Yeah.
Yep. probably someone buried in the backyard. Don’t get me wrong though, i’ve called immediately for plenty of screams/scenes before, I usually do. Just after living here the last year, constantly hearing the screams of dying animals, got kinda de-sensitized to screaming noises.
One of the reasons we left Arlington Texas was because we became desensitized to violence and its sounds, raising a kid in an area prone to gang violence and drugs then becoming used to it makes your kid become used to it and a part of it. When we realized what was happening to our family we got the hell out of Dodge, It broke us but, it was so worth it. Sounds of violence can become something you do not even pay attention to. It is hard to seperate. Cyrene I hope it was an animal for your concience sake. Rest easy we cannot protect all around us.
Probably a person, either getting tortured or messed up on drugs. What I said is just true, even if its no excuse. last night i heard rabbit screaming, a couple of nights before the ‘human sounding screams’ i heard somthing being killed by coyotes.
It really is no excuse, but i got de-sensitized to screaming at night-time. Can’t imagine it’ll happen again, though.
this is crazy because a little while back i heard screams such as the ones you are describing. i came to the conclusion that because the scream was always the same sound and for a good period of time, it couldn’t have been a human. A human would have switched up the vocab, basically making sure there was someone out there who heard that it was in fact a HUMAN in trouble. Also I feel like if it was a human being killed/tortured/whatever by another human, the human doing the killing would surely get it over with quickly to avoid drawing attention. I am very interested, however, in finding out what kind of animal makes such a horrible agonizing noise, it was extremely difficult to listen to.
