The root problem is that the system is rigged towards the ultra-rich and the West is living under what Grace Blakely called “Vulture Capitalism” which means that while normal people are losing their houses and livelihoods, billionaires are profiting with the help of the tax money they get to bail them out of the shit they produce. Above a certain income, there is no accountability, whereas below that income, accountability is brutal.
When countries in the West start considering taking from high pensions to support lower pensions, but are against taxing the ultra-rich, you can see that solidarity is not something that can be expected from people whose wealth is so far removed from the average income that they could never grow poorer, no matter how high such a taxation is.
Sure, I just think it probably makes more sense to talk about the accidental gun deaths as a problem without comparing them via raw numbers to some other deaths in some much smaller country.
