SG&E Moderator Change

As of today, PavlovianModel146 has retired as moderator of the Society, Government, and Economics forum. Pav has been a valuable staff member, and we hate to lose him, but other obligations called. Pav will still be around to participate in discussions, but will no longer be a moderator.

Taking over for him will be Stoic Guardian. Join me in welcoming him to staff as moderator of SG&E! Pav has left some big shoes, but if anyone can fill them it’s Stoic.

:banana-dance:

Thank you for the kind words.

I look foreword to SIATD telling me what a horrible moderator i’ll be.

Cool, I think Stoic will do well

Welcome.

Good luck man.

i’ll miss Pav, but Stoic is a good choice. Also, for better or worse, SIATD has been permanently banned, so you won’t need to worry about being the scapegoat for his anti-authoritarian wrath.

Congrats Stoic and good luck

Stoic is the man!

Where’s my pension check, Carleas, I said lump sum?

I understand why Carleas didn’t want to get too specific, and I appreciate his respect for my privacy, but I’ll just go ahead and say it was a change of job that prompted this retirement as Moderator. The long and short of it is that there are going to be three days a week (and today would usually be one of them) where I would not be on here at all due to my new work schedule. I’m only on today because yesterday was just an orientation, so I didn’t work my full shift.

Anyway, I figured if I worked my full shift and got home, then I could try to continue to Moderate but I’d be half-assing reading threads and everything else just to get to bed…so that would do the site a huge disservice.

I want to thank everyone who was cool to me and respected the Rules of the site when I was a Moderator, and I’d also like to thank everyone who did not respect the Rules because, you know, that gave me something to do!

Share moderation responsibility? (What about the other 4 days a week?)

Also, grats on the new job - hope it turns out well.

Thanks for the congrats!

I guess I should point out that I am officially Staff Emeritus, which means that I still have access to all of the Moderator Tools. I’m not going to be issuing any Warnings any longer, unless I see something extremely blatant and I just happen to be reading that thread. However, I’m still going to delete Spam and do Post Approvals any time I see a legitimate post from a new Member needing approved. In fact, I’ll still be looking for the latter specifically anytime I am on because I think timely Post Approvals are our most important function as Moderators.

The Post Approval system is an excellent system because it means that the Members of this Forum never have to deal with Spam other than those rare occasions when a Spam Bot will post something that looks legitimate and then goes back and Edits it later, but the downside is that new Members have to wait for a Moderator to approve posts, so I’ve always emphasized that we want to get those approved as quickly as possible. I just Approved a post, in fact.

In terms of Co-Moderation, that would be an option, but the way this site has always worked is that Moderators have exercised almost complete autonomy in their assigned Forums. The result is that the Moderators tend to set and guide the tone for same by way of their interpretation and enforcement of the Rules, so that is not a system that I would ever want or ask to be changed on my account.

Besides, today is the first day since June of 2009 that I am just reading threads based on whether or not I want to read them. It’s pretty cool to be a regular Member of the site again, in that sense.

Did you just argue that you would never ask for it to be changed because it’s never changed?
If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right?

Well, I guess the miscellaneous mod support by Staff Emeriti works much the same as co-moderation, but less formally structured and more behind the scenes. I know you all communicate with one another anyway. I am a firm believer in co-operative decision making in order for the decision makers to keep one another in line. Individual executive power may be faster - and clearly under the situations you have emphasised, speed is important - but under other circumstances it will often benefit from another’s approval (and any hold-up in this matter can be beneficial, to allow any raised temperaments time to calm down).

Anyway, although I could go on, this is a light thread and the whole thing is already being discussed in another thread.

Lol. Imagine that - freedom of enjoyment. Crazy.

Congrats Stoic.

Good luck with everything Pav.

I am hesitant to congratulate you. It is a risk to be mod, for any good poster. Only Only Humean is, in my eyes, both a good poster and a good mod.

If you must get someone valuable banned, get yourself banned as a mod. Become historical, not a slave to an ambiguous code.
And if you do ban something, chop his head off and make a point of it. Punishment must go unmasked or is crime.

The old bait and switch.

Thanks, Tab!

Geebus, Stoic. I always thought you were a bit smar… err… congrats.

Pav,

Now you can run around nekkid in the front yard and “wave” to everyone!

Really? Hmm… Well now i won’t have anything to do :frowning:

Congratulations, SG and Pav, on your new jobs! We’ll miss you, Pav. Thanks for all your hard work.

Sorry to hear about SIATD--

I was sorry too, but how is it that you only just now heard of him? He was here longer than you. But, nonetheless I’m happy to tell you the good news; he’s gone.

Thanks for the congrats and for the compliment! I don’t know what the Hell to do, it’s Tuesday, I got up at 5:00a.m. and I don’t work again until Friday still…I was off yesterday…probably need to get a second job!
