Hello people.
Not really sure if this question concerns philosophy, but it could well turn out to do so…
Sometimes if I watch an film in which it all “comes together” at the end in an uplifting way, I get a tingling sensation spread all across my back.
The same may happen if I hear a profound speech or watch an underdog come back from the brink of defeat to claim a dramatic victory. “shivers up my spine” some may call it.
it’s the sensation of witnessing beauty. just as mortal lives are beautiful. holding on to each memory and moment that ever existed to you so dear to you, knowing that it will all be forgotten.
It’s relative though, somebody may get that kind of sensation out of physically beating somebody up.
Yes, i too have been able to sustain the feeling, still not sure what it really is though.
Rami - I don’t think a person could get the sensation by beating people up etc, as there seems a connection between the feeling and “good”. Unless you have first hand experience to suggest otherwise? anything you want to tell us… ?! haha
Now i’m not sure if we are talking about the same feeling here. Imagine watching your favourite football/soccer team playing and they score a goal in the decisive minute to win the match, the feeling that you expel at this paticular moment is the feeling that we are talking about right? The sense of joy.
I think the feeling I am describing is a more specific sensation to what you describe. (but I appreciated your comment anyway) I mean, I do often get a happy, euphoric boost when my team pulls off a great come back etc, but the feeling I was originally describing is litterally like electricity running up your spine; like a big feather tickling your back. It’s not the ‘heavy’ kind of joy that you mention, it’s very very subtle and light.
The feeling I have noted is associated with “uplifting” events. Especially (for me) in films with supernatural element, such as “ghost”. I’ve even experienced the sensation watching a medium describe to my friend about his poor child he lost. “spine tingling” A feeling associated with awe, uplifting and sometimes love. That’s about as best I can describe it. My question is regarding what the “experts” think about this feeling. Is it chemicals? Is there an official name for it. etc. I realise it’s not that important (but what is!!) but I am just interested
hehe interesting. im guessing askewd is a female ? and as such could not feel tingly as a result of beating somebody up ? and rami is male ? so he doesnt get tingly from listening to speeches ?
I personally think it is a feeling of connection between two or more people at once. Or just a connection to some other element. I also get it watching movies that have a good uplifting ending. I also get it after a good race just the aww of working as hard as you can to bet another, the feeling of two or more trying to reach that same goal. I guess you could get it after a fight although I just get a rush.
Do any of you get it when you’re just talking to someone?
Actually I had it happen yesterday morning. I was talking to an old lady and she was telling me about her life - which was a very hard life and she had not had it at all easy, but she had come through the troubles and now dedicates her life to helping others and she was just SO positive that I was I just was taken aback in awe of her. As I thought to myself how she represented the very best in humanity, I got those feelings run down my spine.
Actually I just got them now thinking about it again. (not as strong though)
Still my original question stands - what ARE they? Chemicals? or something else? Does science recognise them?
DALE
PS. No I am not a female, nor gay, but I think I am pretty ‘balanced’ and recognise both my male and female qualities. I am a graphic designer and also a music producer both of which need a logical analytical yet creative and emotive mind… I beat people up but I do it in a creative way with emotion ha!
