Should machines take over the role of judges?

We create a judicial system in order to be fair and impartial in our judgments. But the system isn’t really fair or impartial because judges and juries are comprised of humans which have opinions and are therefor biased.

What if we make machines the judge and jury? We can program them with a set of rules and they will be less biased since machines don’t have opinions of their own. So any bias they have will be because of the rules themselves.

I don’t think that the judicial system is supposed to be impartial to our judgements. After all what do we base this justice on if not our own judgments, as agreed by the masses, (at least intended to).

If you make a machine that is the judge and jury, they would still function on these human based formulations of justice, and so still cary bias. A problem however that would arrise from this system would be that we would no longer have control over these human based judgements any more. Each case is different, with variying reasons for commiting crimes, Justice would dictate that as each case is individual so should the concequence be, and with an AI doing the job, this Justice would be lost

The machine would be designed by humans and would have no way to tell which statements were true or not.

Should we have judges at all? :stuck_out_tongue:

" Who are you to judge me? "

Now that I think about it, it won’t make much of a difference. Any weaknesses we have we’re just going to program them into machines. Machines are an extension of us.

Bingo. No salvation exists.

Ask Mills and his whipping machines.

Judges (and juries) serve as a counter-balance to law, not as a fulfillment of it. That is the whole point! Otherwise you may as well cut out the fat and go straight to the Star Court.

I’m just a human animal; that’s who!

O:) :evilfun:

Unfortuanatly if we want a working society they are needed. Yeah yeah, I know your thoughts on soicety, but I would say that most people dont want rapists and murderers running free to do as they please. So yeah we should have judges
