Are you the property of your parents?
Is a wife the property of her husband?
Is the world the property of God?
Jews practiced and believed in slavery.
This ideology sunk deep into their image of God and their morality.

We all have to humour our parents wishes as we’re growing up in order to keep the peace, but as we get older we have to take a stand sooner or later if we think they’re wrong, just like Polonius said to his son Laertes in Hamlet - “To thine own self be true, then thou canst not be false to any man”…
Even Jesus acknowledged that some families would be torn apart when some members wanted to break away from the old ways and follow him -“Don’t think I came to bring peace on earth. I didn’t come to bring peace but a sword.
For I’ve come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
A man’s enemies will be those of his own household.
He who loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me.
And he who loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
And he who doesn’t take his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me” (Matt 10:34+)
And people quickly gladly cottoned on -
“Jesus saved you from the empty way of life handed you by your forefathers” (1 Pet 1:18 )
Jesus said," If I honor myself, that honor would be nothing. The only person I honor is my father, the one you claim to be your God. IF you love your God, you would love me, because he sent me. Do not believe in me then, if I do not do my father’s deeds but if I do them, why not you don’t believe? …I have done many good deeds in your presences for which among them you wish to stone me for"
That quote is for brother dan~

So you are telling me I should not obey my father?
I wonder one thing, are your elderly in a nursing home?
My parents are dead, they brought me up in typical fashion with a mixture of good sense and bull, but in my mid-teens I decided to do my own thing and have never looked back.
If your dad is telling you rubbish there’s not much you can do about it til you’re about 15 because your parents rule you til then like mine did, so just ride it out til you’re old enough to do things your way…
Sounds to me like you know your direction and self very well, I rejoice for you. Hang in there You will do well. You picked my post apart so at least you know what you don’t want and how you don’t feel and that is very good. best of luck and wishes and stay true to your beliefs.

Sorrie about your parents. It sounds like you are very successful by looking at your avatar and way of thinking. But what if the parents are not telling you rubbish things? I know that parents like to preach about whats moral and their history, how they worked hard and stuff. And kids don’t like to listen to it, until they faced it themselves, and when they have kids, they were the same thing. It is DayShaVoo all over again.
Sometimes being a man* means sucking it up and being miserable. Maybe forever. If our parents are good parents, their lives changed forever just by the act of taking care of us. Not all of those changes were for the better, no matter what they tell you.
If you can’t, you can’t. But tread carefully. Injuring your relationship with your family because of something you merely want is stupid. In the long wrong, it won’t sit well with you.
*- If you don’t like that, then substitute ‘being strong’ ‘being mature’ or ‘being your own person’. None of them have quite the feel I was going for, but whatever.
or ‘girding up your loins!’ I always like that one.
Bravo,
enough honoring your parents , just honor yourself and ignore the religion and philosophies. Enjoy the apetites.
If it bring ruins so be it.
For those who wish to honor your parents, as the bible says, they will live long.
The end.
