should society have an influence on our behaviour?

Plato said that we should strive to have our inward self and outward self live as one. I think this plays to the core of the issue.

When we act in a way that allows society to influence our descisions,do we compromise our own integrity and in turn become actors and put on a facade for societies sake?

I would say that people who want to act in accordance with what is socially acceptable and yet have to “put on an act” so to speak, have a conflict between they’re inward and outward selves and hence lack the integrity needed to act in accordance with they’re own views.

So, why would anyone suppress they’re internal drives for the sake of society?

Society has been around longer and has worked just fine.

If the individual can do better, prove it. It not, shut up and put on a grey suit.

Sometimes people go along with society to take an educational or entertaining ride for awhile.

Sometimes people go along with society because they suffer from codependency.

Sometimes both.

Sometimes I don’t know the difference.

Not too wise of me, I supposed. :frowning:
