Rolling stone Magazine has an ariticle written
by a historian, Sean Wilentz, Prof at Princeton.

It is the contention of Mr. Wilentz, that George bush Jr.
is indeed one the worst president in American history. He has
rivaled some pretty bad ones, William Buchanan,
Andrew Johnson, Hebert Hoover and Warren Harding.
But bush as managed to put himself in the running for the
worst, with a long list of failures, that don’t seem
to end. The failure of the bush administration will stun future
generations and will marvel at bush getting reelected, when the
stench of failure is so strong on him.

Future generations will be at a loss to explain why even
today, conservatives still hang to bush. And thus we come
to the real failure of conservatives. They are pathological
incapable of looking at the real world, with open eyes.
They are incapable of seeing the real world because
of their religious faith in a certain world view.
It is not in facts or truths or evidence, they
believe in, but the faith, the emotionalism of conservatism.
A true believer must believe regards of the facts, regardless of
the evidence, regardless of the cost. Conservatism is not
a political system, but a faith. to question the faith, is heresy.
to deny the faith as true is blasphemy and a traitor.

It is religion that drives the conservative. A search for the
faith. that is why liberals and conservatives have a hard
time talking. they are talking about two different things.
Liberals talk about possibilities, nuance, uncertainty, and facts.
A conservative cares nothing about these things. A conservative
is about certainty, faith, the absolute. A conservative is a religious
person, in every way. thus bush plays the role of the pope,
he is god’s elect on earth and to doubt bush is to doubt god
himself. For the religious, believers are often said to be, god-fearing
people. For the believer, fear plays a strong role, because
faith requires certainty, and certainty can come under fire, from
facts and evidence. And you are fearful you might lose that
certainty, that faith under a barrage of evidence. You fear
punishment from god for learning the truth about the world.
You fear eating the apple of knowledge. so the conservative
hides in the sand, fears looking at or for the truth. the truth
is dangerous because it could get you tossed out of heaven.
The conservative is one who carries religion into every sphere
of life, the political, entertainment, schools, media,
and foreign relations. Don’t see the GOP and
conservatives as political, but see them as religious.

For the conservative, the world will not end with an bang,
nor a with whisper, but with a prayer.

I don’t think it will be difficult to explain. In my view it is very simple.

Persons who have made a profession out of politics are not likely to go against power. This is observable throughout history and perhaps is the #1 unspoken rule in politics. Has nothing to do with the conservative party vs. the democratic party…nor Christians. 80% o the USA is Christian and there are plenty of Christians who are “democrats”. History has shown that people who go against power do not survive (not career wise…nor in the “traditional” sense).

Even Socrates knew this…well…if he didn’t he would not have lived into his 70’s by his own admission.

In the history of every empire (political enterprise) there comes a time when this phenomena reaches such a pinnacle that the enterprise is doomed to fail… or in the very least undergo a transformation of its fundamental constitution.

The only question in my mind is what the reconstitution will hold for man kind. Are we taking the path that holds illumination and tolerance? And why would “we” want to take a path that holds illumination for the riffraff? Would this not lead to loss of power? And how can we have tolerance for those who disagree with us and take what we value most…power?

it amazes me, you have done less to convinse me that conservitism is wrong than sean hannity (the idiot)

i don’t trust something just cuz it was written in rolling stone magazine, by a prof.

this is exactly what i see Liberals doing the only difference - they have no faith to back them up, just trumped up statistics

thank you for pointing out what “I” am, maybe you should look to your own problems and not focus on mine, i have enough to deal with

Rolling Stone magazine sucks. Not nessisarrily because of that article, but just in general.

Oh btw, was the article on Bush before or after the “Life and Times of Ashley Simpson” article?

P.K. this is a rather vitriolic attack on the Republicans…and there are many valid points in it…but, can I ask, do you not think that the Democrats are open to such criticism as well?

You never seem to criticise the Left but yet American politics is made up of both, you can’t blame George Bush for the entire fiasco of American Politics…Clinton is surely open to the same scathing review as Bush?

Perhaps this is all part of ‘your’ propaganda…i.e. even if the Left is worth critisicing because you are on their side it’s better to pass over any problems in silence and continue to knock chunks out of the Republicans…no matter how futile or biased.

Colinsign: P.K. this is a rather vitriolic attack on the Republicans…and there are many valid points in it…but, can I ask, do you not think that the Democrats are open to such criticism as well?"

K: it is an historian view of the bush administration, which is
legitimate and done all the time. "

C: You never seem to criticise the Left but yet American politics is made up of both, you can’t blame George Bush for the entire fiasco of American Politics…Clinton is surely open to the same scathing review as Bush?"

K: clinton big crime against humanity, was he couldn’t keep his
fly zipped up. Yah, that’s certainly worth a dozen years in prison.
If you are crooked, you fry in my book. But the democrats have
zero power right now in Washington. That is why Abromoff gave
no money to democrats, it was pointless cause they had no power.
If you commit a crime, you should go to jail in my book, I don’t
care if you are demo or GOP. But this leaves the gop as the ones
in power who have all this culture of corruption on their watch.
And the corruption goes all the way into the white house. this
is the biggest scandal since teapot dome in the twenties.
Even the gop expect 6 -10 congressmen to go to jail and
at least one senator, plus numerous aids. There are already
5 convictions on the docks so far (all against republicans)
several indictments with more to come. You can’t argue against
the facts. "

C: Perhaps this is all part of ‘your’ propaganda…i.e. even if the Left is worth criticising because you are on their side it’s better to pass over any problems in silence and continue to knock chunks out of the Republicans…no matter how futile or biased."

K:If you participate in a pay-for-play, you should be investigated.
I don’t care who you. However the overwhelming number of
people involved is republican. And that doesn’t even get to
the very serious local scandals in Ohio and New Hampshire,
that implicates the national gop party.

This faith of conservatism may very well explain Bush being re-elected… but what about Blair? Labour supporters in general, are not strong ones.

Yah, maybe one of our British cousins can explain blair.
Because I sure the hell can’t.

Kropotkin

I’m not sure what you mean by this.
