May never be meant to be repeated. Thankfulness should be expressed, and experience harbored greedily in memory.
This morning, like every morning, my carcass was dragged out of bed at four-thirty, and off to the gym, arriving about quarter 'til five.
Arriving home again directly at six-thirty, the usual routine is to fire up a kettle of mud, hit the shower. Decided to wait for the mud this morning, felt like a booster.
Snatched that very first flagon out of the kettle, (everyone knows there is a timing issue for getting the best mud, right as it’s done), headed out the front, and took a seat on the stoop.
Light shades of blue starting to appear as the want of the day forces night to recede to its’ abode for slumber.
Suddenly, I am pleasantly surprised by four little entities traversing outside, to join the ceremony for the beginning of the day. My little one crawls up in my lap, the middle boy sits on my feet and rests back on my bent legs, and my oldest two, take positions to either side and lean up against my shoulders.
Not a single word is spoken. We sit and await, everything so silent all we can hear each other’s breathing. All of us just gazing off towards the horizon.
With typical spectacular glory, Ra mounts his chariot, and forges into the sky, the Goddess of the North sends her blessings and the cacophony of symphonic bird song and chatter to aid the rising Sun god on his daily journey. The hues of the entirety of the sky melt into convoluted waves, indigo and blue mixing with red yellow orb.
We all just sit and watch. Five innocuous beings, sitting in awe of a new day, just watching it all unfold, like it has never been witnessed before.
Some days may never be repeated, but this day will never be forgotten either.
Say what you will about a person who is so enamored of the innocence of his children, but for a father to have a moment like this, a moment where all of them decide of themselves, to just sit with him, for no other reason than to just share a few moments before life makes us once again part ways, it is a moment of divine inspiration, and an example of what love means between humans.
Hope everyone else has a good day. G’day!!! My day is complete already, and a finer day is not likely to be had, anytime soon.
James, elated father.
