“Not just in commerce but in the world of ideas too our age is putting on a veritable clearance sale. Everything can be had so dirt cheap that one begins to wonder whether in the end anyone will want to make a bid.”

“Not just in commerce but in the world of ideas too our age is putting on a veritable clearance sale. Everything can be had so dirt cheap that one begins to wonder whether in the end anyone will want to make a bid.”
LoL, nice thread you got here Detrop, a Porn thread with nothing but a Kierkegaard quote…
Pornography, by itself, is not something bad. Sensualism is natural, and a strong sexual curiosity…a desire to see nudity and sex…indicates a healthy sex drive. Its when people lose interest in sexuality and sensualism that we should start worrying.
The context of pornography makes a difference. In ancient cultures, sex was a legal commonplace service, prostitution was real, clean, and available to only the most wealthy. The political structure and the moral ideology determines whether or not “sex”, in a pornographic medium, is acceptable and appropriate. Again, there is nothing inherently wrong with “seeing a sexual act” or “looking at naked bodies”. But is society is such that it causes problems, at a statistical level, then perhaps the system should be questioned…or…illegalize pornography if it cannot be regulated.
Some versions of porn I consider unhealthy for psychological reasons, but these opinions are matters of discression. Homosexual pornography, beastiality, paedophilia, and the other extremities. (There are hundreds…I won’t bother to type them all) Any context that places surreal and/or bizarre images and plots into a sexual dramatization is making something symbolically more than the sexuality itself. Remember that people are conditioned, and perverse forms of sexual relation can eventually become desired by those who have the opportunity to “see” it. That’s right. The pornography industry is profiting from the commodization (is that a word?) of sexual fetishes which have developed from exposure to preverse forms of pornography. Elemental pornography, which combines sex, sensualism, and metaphor- sadism, masochism- into a context which uses the sexual medium to sublimate other psychologies. Most modern porn is an improvisation of that…and “sex” is no longer the theme of the porn…there are other metaphors that are sold and conditioned into the psyche as well.
An example would be sadism, masochism, bondage, and torture. It is only because a human being is conditioned to be stimulated through such means that such means are stimulating. Circular, yes. But the original sexual encounter in primitive man was brutish and often violent- we can say that there might be an evolved courting instinct that has remained in modern man- but when he developed the intellect and the ambitions to establish a family unit…and stay with it…he entered diplomatic and sociological relations. Therefore, along with the evolution of the sex drive, the “intellectual sex drive” is evolving as well, and it consists of the natural mental processes that occur when human beings enter into a courtship and “mate”. These processes are rational and tactical, they involve planning and strategies, investments, sacrifices, etc., and it is therefore difficult to say, exactly, which ones are “instintive”, or even “is there an instinct at all”?
From this line of logic, I could say that a sexual relation that was not commonplace and standardized by a society had to be introduced through a mediation which made it accessible to the public. It had to be a form of propaganda. I can only imagine that when prostitution was legal, the divergencies occured in perversion and new sexual metaphors were created. Additionally, the social contexts were favorable at that time and complimented the new metaphors- “gender wars” were evolving, and men and women needed an artistic medium through which to express sublimated psychology that reflected the sociological circumstances. A way to “pretend” to be sadistic and/or masochistic…to “act out” those roles in our sexual relations…roles which reflect real social relations in the sexual discourse.
So to summarize, we have a simple original sex drive that consisted of nothing fancy…no blow-jobs or bukkakes or whips or dildos. It then evolved to assimiliate more complex intellectual motives and ambitions, “morals”, if you will, the necessary ethical contracts and investments (marriage, for example) that promote that, Shortly thereafter it transformed into a commodification of fetishes, via the perverse innovations made to human sexuality and the consumer culture, and suddenly was inscribed into the minds of the general public.
One cannot notice the meme they are in unless they think of the history of sexuality and how it has changed, specifically the means through which it is indoctrinated into society. It is hard for us to honestly say why some men have a foot fetish, or like “Horses-on-Mary Lou part 3, The Rodeo”, or want to beat the snot out of their lover…but we can take an estimated and educated guess into the matter and assume that much of these “thrills” are uneccesary, such that mankind wouldn’t even notice they were gone. One day Bob will get home from work and notice he didn’t even remember to go to his favorite porn site before his wife gets home.
I support legal prostitution only for the elite vanguard of the communist party. And that’s only because as Socialists, we know how to arrange and organize society so that pornography is still avaliable and is not a commodity trend. However I would first suggest a monogamous relationship with one partner of the opposite sex, and would provide legal prostitution only to those men who are in a position which denies them the potential to establish a famly. A soldier, for example, would have rights to recieve sexual services.
At the beginning, the Socialist party would look something like a snoop-dog video. Me and my coup would be chillin in the lounge, while several half-naked women danced around and fed us grapes. We, or they, I should say, since I am commited right now to someone, would have their choice of any of the women. The general public, on the other hand, could know nothing about this.
Eventually after citizens are educated and conditioned properly (which could take one hundred years, easy) pornography would be entirely eliminated, save maybe a few sex scenes in a movie. My Socialist party would be absolved and a real utopia would finally exist.
Everyone will be beautiful and sexually satistifed. There will be no ugly people, and nobody will live their life without a beautiful spouse.
Verily, I speak thus.
