Trying too hard- maybe so in the thought process, but also it may be not thinking/caring at all. Maybe someone doesn’t want to put on clothes in the morning shower because it’s too much work, or because they want to make a statement like a minimalistic artist or something.
Depends on whether you can pull it off with thoughtless grace.
Hmmmm!
Beauty is very much a funny face of contradictions for me: I can be swooned immediatley purely in passing by some idyllic, unreasonably beautiful, Adonis of a boy/guy! The beauty which is virtually speckless: perfect taut skin, tanned or olive skinned, with features seemingly in mathematically precise formation. In short: a rare perfect beauty!
Then, there is the beauty of the unusual, the deformed face, or the face that has clearly weathered life i.e. haggard, poke marked, cuts, bruises, in short: a face that is ugly - as we commonly call it. But, I could look at such faces for a long time, they intrigue me: they are like landscapes or maps of some kind.
In comparison, to an ugly faces, beautiful faces are actually quite generic: show me a mutant and I’ll show you a man who is more beautiful, than perfect. hehe!
Hmmm, I wonder how a person/philosophy, STUDIES aesthetics? At least, in a practical or theoretical manner.
Molto interesante!
Stay beautiful
esepcially the

Dare to be different - and it is a dare: because you risk being shunned by society, but when society sucks: it’s a dare worth taking up
Agreed: that clothing is an extension/expression of who we are and what we want to portray.
As we get older: we either dress younger than we are, as to keep up the pretence of youth; or we can go down the other route: where we dress to distinguish ourselves from the young and foolish: by dressing more maturely in the hope of being taken more seriously - I took the latter route…
I dress for comfort. I want to portray comfort so I wear cotton. Contributing to advertisement doesn’t appeal to me. I should deface all logos, brands etc…
To Xunzian: Why must fashion be mastered? How is fashion a ritual?
And it’s crazy how just clothing can make such a difference in how people percieve you, but it really does.
…aint it just
we can attract or repel people, at will ![]()
Some are desperate to attract: while others feel a deep need to repel - we are all somewhere on this scale.
Aesthetics is a learned skill, so we need to examine and understand it in order to enrich our lives. This starts with simple mimicry, a training of the body, the hands and eyes. Once one masters those, the rules can be thrown away and the individual can act as they will.
It does come naturally to some, you know - to be ourselves / be what comes from naturally within, or we are fake!
I think even those for whom it comes naturally have to learn to hone and refine that ability. I’ve known some very intelligent people who have failed at pretty much everything because they were able to coast on their intelligence for most of their lives but when they needed to go beyond mere intellect, they fell flat because they had never developed those skills.
Fashion works on a similar principle.
and there are those who don’t fail…
No such animal, in my experience.
think of characters in movies. Some people can really portray a character. They can seem flawless, smooth, confident, strong and kind. And then it really doesn’t matter what they wear. As long as people don’t expose their weaknesses they can almost become Gods in the eyes of others, even though its’ not the case at all. I got a great example I saw just recently, I don’t know this guy but hes in the art program of course, and he always has a winter sock hat on with strings, and its still hot outside. And I almost already think this guy is unique and interesting, but I’ve never even met him. But by doing whatever the hell he wants, without it even making sense, he becomes a sorta, I don’t care what others think in other peoples eyes, and he may very well not. I’ve not seen to many annoying desperate for attention people be odd, they try to hard to fit in normally.
and your experience is subjective: as is all of ours - you having not met those types: does not mean they do not exist - an ex work colleague re-iterated that Carib Indians did not exist: as they were all wiped out by those who sought to conquer their land: therefore she said I did not exist, but I was standing right in front of her/working with her in publishing/being a friend to her.
What people know, and what reality is: are two different things, but does not mean things are so/not so!
Naturally, but we are ultimately limited by our experience. I see no reason to get dragged into absolute relativism because of my limited frame of knowledge.
I was just genuinely interested in what Xunzian’s ideas of why fashion needed to be mastered, no need to point out that we have limited knowledge. And how fashion is a ritual. Yes i really want to know how he came to this conclusion.
I think this sort of thing exists with all forms of social interaction. Nietzsche put it succinctly with his Camel–>Lion–>Child paradigm. The Camel is the phase where one masters it, the lion rejects the thing, and the Child simply is but is not bereft of the knowledge gained as a camel or a lion.
Weren’t intending on dragging you into anything, Xunzian: it aint my style ![]()
What has what you were just generally interested in got to do with me? I would have expressed my view either way: free will n all ![]()
I was expressing my view, and am free to point out what I want - all cultures are different: mine is way more sexually expressive than most, so superficialities become irrelevant.
If you want to attract soemthing then you must give in to its demands and expectations.
Any interaction entails a loss of freedom.
If one needs to eat, he hunts.
In hunting he must study, observe, empathize and strategize based on the preys whims and nature.
In so doing the hunter’s will is guided and it sumbits to the need for the other.
The same goes for mating.
The weakness, is the need itself, which results in compromises and sacrifices.
