Has anyone noticed how people are alot more mean and rude to strangers outside of their own families or group of friends?
I have always observed this and gave alot of wonder towards the subject.
Is this a instinctual quality or somthing else?

Is it that they’re being meaner to the others, or nicer to thier families? I wouldn’t expect a stranger to be anything less than an asshole to me. But I try and be nice to my mom.
That too.
I’ve noticed people being nicer to their families or those immediately known to them.
I’ve noticed when it comes to strangers people are quite rude and mean where their selfish inclinations are more out in the open than they would be in the quarters of their family or friends.
I have witnessed this too, and put it down to the selfish-gene syndrome/lack of altruism outside of those that can help them… I treat all peeps respectfully, and expect nothing less in return!
A kind of off-shoot to this phenomenon is how people behave when they get behind the wheel. I’ve noticed that people seem much more rude when driving - cutting people off, tailgating, etc. The kind of behavior that wouldn’t be acceptable just walking down the sidewalk and encountering people face to face. It’s as if, once you get into your car, you are anonymous or invisible or something…you can behave badly and not be found out…?
I have to admit I have done this myself, impatiently honking when the light turns green, etc.
Not directly related to the original post, but somewhat similar. The civil façade slips a little, I think.
Haha, I have witnessed/experienced this on ILP, Joker, and I have been shocked as to the ferocity with which some have attacked myself and others on this site.
Depending on the society, people are typically conditioned to be this way. You don’t know what to expect from others and you typically aren’t interested in hearing what they have to say. New York City is the biggest example of this behavior. You’ve got such a mixing bowl of people there, including tons of schizophrenics and people who have just plain lost their mind.
So the people there tend to not give people the benefit of the doubt. They are quick to be aggressive to let you know that they aren’t to be fucked with. NYC is like a jungle.
