A lot of characters moving around. No clear reason what they were doing or why. No back stories. All plot and no character development.
Good points
- How the gov’t hired Clooney and turn their backs on him. It was definitely heavy
- When they pulled George’s fingernails out. That was visceral entertainment. No thinking required.
Despite the convoluted and seemingly complex plot, it seemed to make a very simple point. There are interdpendencies of religion, gov’t, and economics that create situations in the middle east. The U.S. want for cheaper oil has led to our support of questionable gov’ts (like the Saudis) who don’t take care of their people. The people seek shelter in religion to their problems. Religion leads them to attack the U.S.
It makes me wonder, though, why people of the middle east do not attack their own gov’ts instead of the U.S. I suppose Bin Laden believes, probably accurately, that the backing with the backing of the U.S. it is difficult to take on their gov’ts, so to take their gov’ts out they must first take out the U.S.
