No, I thought of Florence Nightingale, Madam Curie, Simone De Beauvoir, Sylvia Plath, Indira Ghandi, Benazir Bhutto plus a couple of queens and empresses - but they all failed either the ‘recognizable in a second’ test, or the “I’m a total meme” test. Simone was closest.
Same with the above. A case of no idea, no idea, absolutely no idea, and not sure. I mean, I can guess a bit, but I shouldn’t have too.
Anita, you’re not being fair. The only people who would recognize Amelia Earhart would have to be women and old time aviation enthusiasts. And Jane Goodall??? Who the hell reads National Geographic or watches Animal Planet? Who becomes a recognizable icon is decided by the media, and they rarely pick talent and brains. Mother Teresa is one of the few exceptions. You want instant recognition? How about Paris Hilton lathered in foam draped on the hood of a car in the Carls Jr. ad? Or maybe a shot of Britney Spears beaver shot climbing out of her car. It may be sad, but instantly recognizable pics of women are based on woman as sex toys.
Incidentally, I like this. A collage of pics depicting good and bad social movements, the best and worst of our ideals… Good stuff. This should be expanded into a Youtube clip? In fact, by picking specific target areas like freedom, or mother love, or nasty stuff like war or torture… maybe a series of clips?
