The only answer that came close to the most pivotal question regarding religion – afterlife – was too nondescript to be of value for me, though I chose it as the best available.
The closest answer for me was “No afterlife; no spiritual existence beyond life; no literal heaven and hell. Or not sure. Or not important.” No "literal heaven and hell, "not sure, “not important”, clogged this answer with way too much for it to be of any value in determining my lack of any religious leanings.
As a result, I scored 96% on Mormons and Jehovah’s Witness, both of which believe in an afterlife.
That just goes to show that not only does the afterlife mean EVERYTHING in religion, to the degree that “No afterlife” isn’t even allowed to be by itself as a simple answer and factor justifiably strong in negating religious inclination altogether, but that being a percentage of some religion less than 100% is meaningless with regard to “okay, I’ll be that religion”.
It also goes to show that these quizes are not yet valuably evolved. This quiz almost assumes that you are religious to some degree or you wouldn’t be taking the quiz.
It also said I scored very high in atheism/agnosticism (“non-theist”) when I answered both of the God questions with the first answer (personal, supreme God), so it appears the quiz is a little schizoid.
These can be fun for learning about the various religions, but I wouldn’t choose to convert based on the results.
I am a monotheist but am not a member of any organized religion. So I was surprised, and at the same time not surprised by the results. The poll was an oversimplification, but then again, which poll or survey is not ? Here’s the results:
1. Orthodox Judaism (100%)
2. Islam (97%)
3. Sikhism (95%)
4. Bahá'à Faith (91%)
5. Reform Judaism (87%)
6. Jainism (78%)
7. Liberal Quakers (59%)
8. Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) (55%)
9. Hinduism (55%)
10. Unitarian Universalism (51%)
11. Seventh Day Adventist (47%)
12. Neo-Pagan (46%)
13. Orthodox Quaker (46%)
14. Jehovah’s Witness (45%)
15. Eastern Orthodox (43%)
16. Roman Catholic (43%)
17. Mainline to Conservative Christian/Protestant (40%)
18. Mahayana Buddhism (38%)
19. Mainline to Liberal Christian Protestants (36%)
20. New Age (30%)
21. Secular Humanism (28%)
22. Theravada Buddhism (21%)
23. Nontheist (20%)
24. Scientology (20%)
25. Taoism (19%)
26. New Thought (17%)
27. Christian Science (Church of Christ, Scientist) (11%)
Can you give a synopsis of your beliefs / philosophy / morals that would allow such a high degrees of zeros?
The high amount of zeros might come from strong priority views, since most of my votes where in the middle priority range with few highs and low extreme modifiers.
Christian Science (Church of Christ, Scientist) (0%)
Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (Mormons) (0%)
Eastern Orthodox (0%)
Hinduism (0%)
Islam (0%)
Jainism (0%)
Jehovah's Witness (0%)
Mahayana Buddhism (0%)
Mainline to Conservative Christian/Protestant (0%)
New Thought (0%)
Orthodox Judaism (0%)
Orthodox Quaker (0%)
Reform Judaism (0%)
Roman Catholic (0%)
Scientology (0%)
Seventh Day Adventist (0%)
Sikhism (0%)
I think the zeros result from answering the part considered the “religion or belief catergory” with not applicable. I wasn’t sure what that meant. I don’t subscribe to a “belief” to which I can attribute my answers. If I just give my opinion on those issues the zeros shoot up to 5-30%.
If I was a ‘Satan Worshipper’ I should think my answers with regard to the cosmos in general would have put me closer to christian than non-theist. No, I am no sort of theist whatsoever. I find ‘spiritual’ matters downright ridiculous.
I am a Satanist, however.
Please do a precursory search of this site for my posts on this subject before presenting any further questions as pertaining to this matter. I have answered them all, on this site, already,in triplicate, and really have no desire to do so yet again.
Perhaps it would have been more proper to say the poll is misleading regardless of how the questions are answered.
Since I know what my actual beliefs are, e.g. monotheism, and monotheism properly defined would likely class me with Judaism and Islam I could somewhat understand why I would score 100% Orthodox Judaism and 97% Islam. But to score 95% Sikhism, for example, is a misrepesentation of my actual views because Sikhism is a branch of Hinduism which is polytheistic.
I looked at some of the comments on the poll website. One person who said they were Muslim scored 100% Orthodox Judaism and 94% Islam.
I don’t think this poll is a very good tool to try and determine what one actually believes. People who do not share my actual views, or understand them, are likely to misrepresent them.
Have you discussed the difference between a theist Satanist and a non theist Satanist or is the term Satanist devoid of deifying Satan as opposed to a Satan worshipper?
If this topic is addressed in your archives, I would appreciate a link to it or short answer here, as that is my only question for you.
