Tangent Universes?

I had an idea last night, and I haven’t quite figured out if it’s philosphically sound.

First of all, is there any chance in life? I mean, flipping a coin really isn’t something of chance, it’s something hard to calculate. So it got me to thinking.

If a big bang happened somewhere else outside of our universe, far away perhaps, and it would most likely start the same, is there a chance it creates the same things that we have? Like earth, mars, etc. Is there also a chance that people evolve exactly the same? And would be possibly make teh same choices? (that one gets difficult to answer) So I wonder if tehre is another universe, another me and another you? And if that was all somehow possible, we should definitely travel to see if it happened in another time possibly close to ours and we may be able to see our future, past, undoubtful present though.

Oh and i’m sure the idea has been thought of before but anyway would be interesting to discuss.

I had a thread called “can there be randomness” where I think there was some stuff about chance or whether we can calculate randomness. As far as other universes, if they did exist, would they be causally isolated from this one? Is that possible?

Behold the Tangent Universe and DISPAIR!!!

It would seem possible, I mean, what is outside the expanding universe? nothing? Total darkness?

I was reading something from Quine where he mentioned a “systematic distortion” or reality in which we may have made a minor ontological mistake which leads to what seems like a complete understanding of observable things, but over time, (maybe this relates to chaos theory), leads to an understanding which doesn’t correspond to reality in itself…

It’s hard to talk about these things without making semantic contradictions. The question as to what is outside the expanding universe seems valid, but by definition wouldn’t that stuff still have to be part of the UNIverse? I dunno man. I think there’s more to be known than can be indicated by language. There just has to be…

I reckon there’s only one universe.
