The Baghdad Battery

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baghdad_battery

Apparently these are “batteries” found from centuries ago. Potentially obliterating the idea that electricity wasn’t used before the 19th century.

What do you think?

I have heard of these before, another history mystery. I wonder if they might go back to some hieroglyphs or ancient texts and see them in a different way. Some mention of these batteries should have been mentioned some where, shouldn’t it? I wonder if anyone has thought to talk to someone who specializes in the ancient language of the area.

Is there a news article about this? How did you hear of it?

On a personal note, Cheers for Persian genius!

I was on some weird site that listed a bunch of famous mysteries, and I found this one particularly interesting. Wiki confirmed it’s existence, so that really intrigued me.

Kris-perhaps with intense excavation of the area, we may be able to find other clues. I imagine if these people had a form of electrical power, I have a feeling they have plenty more, still waiting to be found.

Probably alot has found its way to private collections. Just think of the things we will never know because those with private collections fear the law and so hide the artifacts or lie. I wish amnisty would be given to collectors so that scientists could freely examine these things. So much has been destroyed so that people do not get arrested. Gaaahhh, Gov’ts can be so dense.

I love OOPart. I think it’s all really interesting, but I also think much of it is modern imagination looking into the Rorschach of the past.

For instance, these ‘batteries’ are pretty well explained in nonelectrical terms, and the idea that they are batteries has a number of flaws. That doesn’t rule it out completely, but it does make me wonder whether I’m projecting or perceiving.

Wow. “Artifacts alleged to predate humanity”. It really makes you wonder.
