The balance of the ego and the spirit

Through deconstruction or crises of the ego, you fall off the island of thought. This gives you a chance to grapple the island of the soul. Though, no bridge is developed between the islands, because the people on the island of thought mask the island of the soul as insanity. As you swim back to the island of thought, you gain a new kind of knowledge that creates a bridge between the islands. These kinds of bridges are only temporary during a moment, so you must keep swimming because the current is strong. And as you keep swimming back and forth from the islands, the hardship of swimming liberates the soul.

I dare you. Fall off

I think the only reason why we can’t sense our soul properly is because we were genetically sabatoged, or evolution suppressed it because it was something like an anti-life-pro-spirit.

Elaborate? I don’t follow

People can’t “sense their soul” merely because they don’t know what it is.

One can know what it is by embracing learned helplessness, like an uncomfortable moment. Logical persuasion cannot be the source of its meaning.

Can you define the terms ‘soul’ and ‘spirit’?

An individually based, non-physical microcosm known through moments in experience.

Ram Tzu has some questions for.you...

Just who do you think you are?
 Are you other than God?
 Are you separate from Me?

 If So....
 What are you made of?
 Where did it come from?

Don't look to science to help you.
The physicists have all become mystics.
They're of no more use to you than is Ram Tzu.

If you're really clever you'll turn around
 And walk away...Fast!
Hang around here and you're liable to lose
 Everything you hold dear

Go back to your church; your temple,
Your therapist, your drug dealer, your ashram.
There you may find a moments peace.
 You found it there once.
Here is only emptiness for you.
You'll find no food for your ego here.

What if your precious sense of self
Were to shrivel up and die?
 Where would you be then?
 What would happen?

 Best not to risk it.

Where does it exist? What is it made of? And how do you know?

Also, is it there even when you don’t notice it?

Do you have as much trouble with words like “perception,” “mind” and “love” as you’re pretending to have with “spirit” and “soul”?

I’m not pretending anything. I do this almost every time I see those words used undefined. Frankly, I think many people use them without knowing what they are supposed to mean. And, even more frankly, I don’t think they mean much of anything. I’m not giving anyone a hard time. I’m genuinely interested in how people use the words. I do this quite often. I even started a thread about it not long ago. Can you define them?

Mind, sometimes, depending on how it’s used. Perception and love I can usually approximate, and aren’t generally posited as ‘things’ [ex. made of something]. I’m sure there are possible instances of each that would provoke similar questioning from me though.

Hightension—If my questions offend you, you don’t have to answer. I’m not trying to be a dick.

No. But I could make up some interesting sketches, that would just be cartoons full of bull-sperm … just like everybody else does … and has been doing since the first blink of self-consciousness … that’s still a mystery today.

What do we know? NOTHING! So we make it up as we’ve come along, and from the seat of our pants, willy-nilly, with the stroke of a pen, … and we’ve made up a whole lot of outlandishly silly stuff so far … and will continue to do so in the future. Poor humankind. Still in the dark. We can see so little. How can we know what’s really going on unless we have all the data? And that’s impossible. So it’s all illusion.

So pick your favorite illusion and run with it … or don’t … make up your own …

And use soul and spirit in your design. Define them as you wish …

at first I thought you were the OP, but apparently you’re not.

The thread is a metaphor. Take it the way you’d like.

Not that I took it as a genuine request, but;

Soul ≡ the fundamental definition of an individual being/person (related to the “sole” of a shoe being the fundamental purpose of a shoe).
Spirit ≡ the actions, efforts, and behavior of a being or person; the host energy within (from where we get “ghost” - ghe-host, spirit-host).

Don’t know if that’s a compliment or not so I’ll take it as one … thanks captain …

What does that mean? What is your fundamental definition?

[/quote]
So a persons job, participation on a softball team, or masturbation habit is part of his spirit?

The concept description of what you fundamentally are and are not that would distinguish you from anything else.

Your “efforts at your job”, yes. The job itself, no. And yes, everything else that you do, think, and say.

I can’t imagine what that would entail. But you’re saying a person’s soul is essentially just a description, not a thing?

So you could just say a person’s spirit is his behavior. Why call it spirit? And, again, not a thing?

It isn’t a physical thing. It is a concept. Concepts exist only in what they call the “divine realm” of existence (along with ideas/“angels” and things like the square and circle, perfect geometries and ideals).

Why call it “behavior”? The word “spirit” came first and isn’t restricted to social behavior or outward behavior.

And their word for what you call “energy” was “spirit”. Your behavior is your personal energy, efforts, actions, desires… They didn’t cal it “energy” because that wasn’t one of their words.
