Meno - What Putin did, as I now guess you’re unaware of it, has nothing to do with Marx or Communism. It was more Augustan military political genius that had him deceive his masters into thinking he was their puppet, until they placed him on the throne and he outlawed them. Now Russia is the major player on the word stage and its enemies resent that and pretend that Russians are angry at being such a powerful nation.

Of course all Russian sources are blocked in the West - we must all believe they’re suffering under the yoke of a boogie man.

I appreciate your effort to get more nuanced and honest with me, I now believe you at least half believe what you’re saying.

Forgive me if I scorn this highhanded throwing around fancy marxist terms, as if people are supposed to be impressed by them. By these fancy terms. It has the opposite effect; it suggests a lazy mind. I tend to stay as simple and straightforward as I can in my formulations, as I like to be able to trust myself, at least. Language has a way of running away with ones mind if it is allowed to. Fancy terms are so tasty.

There was, it seems to me, never trust between Russia and Western Europe. (Russia is part of Europe, people forget, its Capital is and so the nation, politically, is a part of it) There is The Great Game; the eternal contention with the English, and there are Napoleon and Hitler. Conversely there is Stalin. Russia tries to be part of Europe, which means a dominant part, Western Europe tries to control Russia. In this light, this war was simply knowing provocation. It serves all kinds of shady purposes, all kinds of covert operations on both sides.

If peace, integration will come about it will be based on proper confrontation of cultural values, meaning also such serious things as religion.

No doubt, a great factor is the division of the Roman Empire. It could, beneath it all, be a clash of spiritual values.

Answers can not be political, they must be cultural. I dont mean legalization, I mean greater courage to deal with the strange. Which means a courage of ones own convictions.

Why the fear between the cultures? Likely because there is uncertainty about their own values.

Compare to Ancient Rome in its glory days, or to the US in its glory days; when values were strong and coveted, and people were actually glad to be incorporated.

Who today still has such values? What nation, what realm?

Ok Fixed. How similar positions have become in the New Wirld, to those if Napoleon, still under the Hugh handed way that autocrats tried to conquer the world, under the sway if the philosophy that proclaimed the best of all possible worlds.

Peter the Great was well aware to the importance if connecting to Europe, and the fear of that message’s nihilization is what prompts him( Putin) to emulate, simulate him to the point near absurdity.

One comment here for now, that the adoption of the Hegelian absolute in politics actually necessitates the collapse of every real thing. Such a political absolute, as an idea, serves simply as a vortex that sucks the coherence out of every non-absolute.
The disastrous situation of political dialectic is simply a formula of gradual systemic elimination of true substance.

With Lenin and Trotsky contending there was perhaps still relevance to this parallel - though superficial since Communism is hostile to all the individualistic values of the French and American revolutions, but Stalin only ever used Communism to solidify Russia’s national interests.

That’s the part of the equation in which I admit you have a point; Russia used Communism to emerge as an industrial, economic player. But noting that it had already rejected Internationalism and was oriented firmly on its national interests.

I wouldn’t trust Forbes or any publication at this point, by the way - I dont think there is any truth being said concerning Russia or basically anything that matters right now in printed media. Not saying I do know the situation. I just would not occur to me to trust a magazine especially right now in there middle of a war.
