I don’t mean by cult of personality the cult of pretend Marxist dictators such as
Mao and Stalin and Lenin, no, I mean our own personal cult of personality.
On some level, I knew that in the east, as in India, China for example,
the goal of life is to remove, eliminate, the self, to bond, join, become,
part of the whole. The thing we call personality is a mask and we must learn to remove
that mask and be one with the universe. That is only possible when we remove all
traces of who we are, when we relieve ourselves of the burden of existence. by disengaging
from life and removing traces of that mask, we can finally end the burden of existence and
no longer be reincarnated. That is the goal of the eastern philosophies, to no longer suffer the
burden of being reincarnated over and over and over. Whereas in the west, we want heaven but
with our personalities intact. Recall your Dante and his journey to heaven and hell, all those
in hell and purgatory, still had their personality intact and was recognizable by Dante as
as such. So we have two distinct and opposing viewpoints as to personality. The east is trying
to erase the personality and the west holding on to the personality even to heaven and hell.
On second thought, holding on to the personality is one of the greatest battles in the west.
You hear it all the time, don’t lose yourself into this cult or this action. The west biggest fear
is this loss of personality whereas the east is actively trying to lose this personality.
The west greatest fear is put on display with the fear of vampires and zombies.
As to the greatest fear of the east, I have no frigging idea. Maybe young republicans?
I really have no idea. but this very lack of a discernable fear, like the ones that haunts the west,
says something in itself.
Try to discern your personality and then wonder if you are one with the west,
hanging on to the personality or to the east, losing the personality.
Now if we take Hegel seriously and believe with every thesis, you have your opposite thesis,
or antithesis and from them, you get your syntheses. Which is a combining of the two, thesis
and antithesis, to make your syntheses. So let us take our Hegel theories seriously and
look for a syntheses between the west cult of personality and the east elimination of
personality.
We must look to this idea of personality. Personality is the mask we wear and
that mask if changeable. I have seen people who have accidents and surgeries
and life changing events and come out with different personalities. They are changed
by their events and that change is shown by their change in personality.
This changeability in personality suggests that personality is nothing more than a mask.
Which suggest that the east is more correct in this idea of personality then the west.
But why this holding on to personality even to heaven? I would suggest ego. The west is
ego driven. So what is the next step if there is even a next step. mmmm.
