The Culture of The Wimp

is everywhere…I know this because I am a victim of it…

No seriously, why do people feel they shouldn’t suffer as much these days?
Why must we make allowances for everyone?

One example is maternity leave…how come my mothers mother could raise an entire family of 8 children without large complaint or state help…while these days…men are now being allowed to have maternity leave as well as the pregnant woman…what has made us so self-consious of our own hardship? Why can’t we accept that consequences of our actions without feeling someone else must endure them with us?

Is there an increase in a protective social culture? Is this a bad thing? Perhaps a large majority of human beings are realsing that they don’t have the answers, that they are actually weak, badly informed, ignorant, in need of direction…

Isn’t that what religion is for … :evilfun:

Sure…but on a more immediate everyday sense no…that is what Social Service’s is for…

It’s called ‘the open society’…

Or, more precisely, the arse end of the open society

Personally I’m all in favour of paternity leave because I think that we should actively seek a greater balance between genders regarding childcare.

The answer to your question is Parkinson’s law of social welfare. He claims that the total number of social problems increases to use up all that the state has to offer (social workers, benefits and so on) and because most governments will keep expanding because it gives them more power all we get is more and more social problems.

It’s more an increase in paranoia but it’d take me about an hour to write a proper explanation of that. If I’m free tomorrow then ask me about it then and I’ll give you a few suggestions, some of which you’ll surely have though of already…
