The Death of Intelligence

Can’t write poetry.
Don’t have the intelligence.
Careless with technicalities.

I could learn the skills,
if I put the effort in,
if I tried to improve.
But, I would be fooling myself,
because I don’t want to improve,
I don’t have the patience of mind,
I don’t have the attention required.
I’m evading the responsibility of being
an intelligent considerate useful poet;
and human being.

I am then, a representative, of
the death of intelligence.
the suicide of skill.
the murder of brain matter.
the buggery of learned skill
and craftmanship.

I am the Bastion of the Idiot Human.
The all pervasive foolish people.
Who have no skill. Require no skill.
Seek no craft.

We are examples of the death of
Intelligence. Concentration.

We are watered
down to
vapour.

Don’t you see it,
every word betrays,
I am an intelligence
in decline.

Or more precisely,
a stupidity
clutching
at the last vestiges
(and vegetables)
of a mongoloid
Intelligence.

I am
revealing
INSTANTANEOUSLY!
that I am subservient
to the culture within which
I am enslaved.

Were an intelligent man,
is actually deemed and idiot.
And an idiot is revered,
as sincerely limited,
and therefore,
better,
improved.

In short,
I am tall.
But, I cannot do
mathematics without
a calculator.

And if you cannot see
we are being bred as idiots,
to remain idiots, immersed
in a cultural petrie dish of fools,
then you are
an idiot.

I’m going to stop typing this
and smoke a joint
so my brain falls out my nose;
and then I can act like a Clownish Idiot
so no one can take me seriously
and I continue like that
all part of an idiot defense mechanism.

I’m caught all day
bickering over Nothing,
literally, criticising
nothing in myself and anyone,
as though it was something,
but really my head is filled with
a noxious gas of foolishness.
a foolishness that is everywhere encouraged
to not pay attention
to run away when you can’t do something
to avoid at all cost learning something extremely difficult.

I have been understood?
I am an oxymoron.

I, like all of you on this forum,
represent the death of intelligence .
As I type, your children are all ready,
Idiot Proof. They have been raised in a culture
utterly devoid of substance and riguour.

They have been raised in an environment
that means even if a chil wanted to pay attention
the technologies and methods applied in schooling
activtely seek to - reduce attention.

We are ‘the intelligent dead’!
We are the first rung on the ladder
of the people of the future.
If we represent the first breed
of the people of the future,
and our children are the second,
then we are actively seeing,
before our eyes, before our
dry brains:

*the increased Robotism of Humanity.

*the genocide of cognitive functioning.

*the massacre of craftmanship.

*Instant lobotomy.

and what seals our fate all the more,
is that,
we wanted this to happen.
we want to be lobotimised.

Colin,

The fact that you wrote this piece is a refutation of the content. There is intelligence and there always will be. I was struck by the similarity to some observations by Kierkegaard in a short (relatively) essay called The Present Age I checked Amazon and it is still in print. If you want both confirmation and perhaps some hope, get a copy. See what another intelligent person had to say in the 1850’s…

I thought the same thing, JT, to the point where at first I thought Colin was purposely using irony. But as the piece continued it became clear he wasn’t.

It flows nice, it moves along, it’s typical deft Colinsign writing, and for those reasons I like it, same as I feel about all of his work. But the cynicism (prevalent seemingly everywhere I look anymore) is poison to me.

I didn’t want to blah blah about Kierkegaard and take away from Colin’s work, but much of this is about the leveling process in any society. Colin isn’t the first to feel it or to rage against it. Leveling is the root cause of cynicism, and we all struggle with it. But there are answers if we look for them… or more to the point, there are solutions as soon as we stop looking for answers…

Colin,

You’ve laid it out in detail… Time to poke your head through the ceiling and see the other side…

I wouldn’t be so quick to dimiss irony. Oddly enough, after writing this piece, I laughed heartily. Because I knew the very thoughts I have produced contradicted the central message - i.e. The intelligence required to understand the decline of intelligence. Taking this into consideration, the piece then becomes farce, a faricial little comment (and cynical) on the alleged decline of intelligence.

tentative, I think I shall get that Keirkegaard’s book; I have read him before, but never ventured far enough into his thoughts. Some thing I will now do.

cheers.

colin

See, JT? I told you he was using irony.

But… but… he so cleverly disguised it!

Colin,

If I’m not wrong, there is an even shorter essay in the same book “On the difference between an Apostle and a Genius.”. Read it too. Who knows? You just might be… :astonished:

Purchased, The Present Age, look forward to consuming it.

What is HORRIFIC about this poem (and most poems I write) is the layout.
It is hideously ignored and overlooked. It is the real nugget of idiocy that has yet to be mentioned.

It reads more like prose and/or an essay, rather than anything resembling poetry or creative writing.
But, since it was written in a manner at once hurried, insane and with little consideration for layout,
I thought it wise to place in creative shiteing board.

The Idiot in me asks the idiot in you,
what is the square root of negative fifty two!

More irony?

Undoubtedly.

I am intelligent - even more Irony.

What’s your obssession with Irony tentative, you’re American, you don’t understand the seven thematic levels of irony.
I thought it was out of the americna sensor band width.

‘A idiot is a genius to another idiot’ - MORE IRONY!

Enough with the Irony, I’ve got real ironing to get done.

But Colin,

Irony is just play within absurdity - as long as you don’t think about it.

Tip on ironing: Don’t. Be permanent pressed. No creases, no wrinkles.
