the Department of Departments

Dempsey worked
for the Department of Departments,
holed up mostly
in his Department’s compartment,
and returning each night
to his furnished apartment.

the Department was quite an amazing thing,
structured to encompass all the other departments,
and to make sure,
according to its mission statement,
that each department,
was doing its best:

to impose well-being,
and welfare,
and bliss,
and (more) well-being,
on all the citizenry.

so Dempsey loved
the Department of Departments,
and worked very hard
in his Department’s compartment,
returning each night
to his furnished apartment.

because without the Department,
how would the typical
unaware,
uninformed,
oblivious
citizen
know what to do?
Thank God the Department
was there:

to impose well-being,
and welfare,
and bliss,
and (more) well-being,
on all the citizenry.

so give a cheer
for the Department of Departments,
and people like Dempsey
at work in his compartment,
(leaving only to return
to his furnished apartment).

‘cause otherwise
we’d all be on our own,
suffering
freedom,
and choices,
and all the other indignities of
primitive man
long before
there were people around
(people like our hero Dempsey):

to impose well-being,
and bliss,
and welfare,
and (more) well-being,
on all the citizenry.

hip, hip, hooray!

I hope the faceless and pin-striped ones read this!

Thank you. I needed that.

I liked it… and I appreciated the repitition theme, especially with the ‘partment’ rhymes.

Still though… there was something I couldn’t quite put my finger on.

I don’t know if that something is good or bad yet…

k I read it again and I think the something is the sarcasm. I think I would have prefered it so be a bit more subtle… make the reader think ‘hey is the author for the system or not… I can’t tell’. Because really, we’re all so entrenched in it I don’t think you can say it’s wholly detrimental. This is further emphasized by the structural syntax you used.

sarcasm?? moi ???

yeah it probably could have been a bit more subtle. indeed maybe so. thanks.
