I don’t think he said anything about BELIEF there, Faust.
Essence DOES have to do with the inner human experience and creating meaning - it is not something believed but rather something which is given rise to and felt …which does spur us on to question mystery and to seek answers and Truth. So in a sense, you are incorrect. Essence is a part of reality which holds many things.
What is it that keeps you coming back to Philosophy, Faust, if not that felt essence, some kind of essence though perhaps you cannot name it?
Is it only the attraction of a cold rational mind to philosophy? Perhaps the true essence of your philosophy would be that of an iceberg awaiting the big ship of fools, to demolish and shipwreck them.
The essence of my philosophy is a creative fiery burning force in need of knowing and stripping back those veils which hide WHAT IS. Perhaps I could use some of your iceberg brilliance and you could use some of my heat.
We might make a river together…but philosophy can be likened to a river - right - in that it is fluid and flowing and in that one cannot, must not, step into that same river twice. And its currents are such that are ever-changing. lol
Not wanting to assume or presume - unless you were referring to another’s post, I was addressing Faust’s post…not yours.
BUT at the same time, I did actually respond to your thread with…
Is that NOT once sentence…and if NOT that, what were you looking for?
Aside from that, is it possible that one cannot ALWAYS actually express the essence of his/her philosophy in one sentence?
Essence IS something which is fluidic so from moment to moment don’t you think it is capable of change?
Are we just THIS or THAT? The essence of our philosophy could at one moment be felt as a GIANT QUESTION MARK (wondering) if we are searching and at other times it can be an incredible intuitive experience if we are pondering and discovering (wonderment).
Unless, of course, it’s not. “Who gets to decides these things?” might come closest to the essense of my philosophy.
Which is just another way of speculating about things the essense of which may well be beyond the capacity of philosophers to decide. The rest is just word games.
I can’t speak for humanity. You asked for the essence of my philosophy, I gave you my response. The individuals that make up the conglomerate called ‘humanity’ should also speak for themselves rather than for the god in whom they’ve been taught to believe, the leader in whom they hope and believe will bring them a new life, the ‘movement’ they think will change the processes of life. How often do people actually think beyond themselves–their desires–their adrenaline?
How often do people actually think with their minds?
