Dear ILP Members,

In recent months Apple have released their latest product - The Ipod Nano

As soon as I saw it I fell in love with it. Unfortunately, I am a poor poor student, already in £10,000 worth of debt. So I resigned myself to a life without a sexy music product until I stumbled upon The Million Dollar Homepage. It’s basically a guy who is trying to raise $1m to send himself to University. So then I thought that maybe I could enlist the help of the generous people over at ILP.com. So I came up with:

What is it?

An unashamedly blatant attempt to get an Ipod I can’t afford.

What do you need?

Donations! The product costs £200. If only 40 members donated just £5 each I could buy it instantly!

This thread will contain the current donations level, charting the journey of one man and his potential ipod.

What’s in it for me?

Apart from the warm fuzzy feeling you’ll get for giving something back to the ILP.com community (in the form of a happy administrator), when I receive the ipod you will get:

£5-£10 donation

  1. Access to a private ILP forum.

  2. A digitally autographed photo of me with my new Ipod to hang up on your wall in the safe knowledge that you did something good.

£10-£20

  1. All of the above

  2. An ilovephilosophy.com e-mail address of the form username@ilovephilosophy.com. You will be the envy of all your friends and family with this stunning new e-mail.

  2. A written letter of thanks and an individually autographed photograph of me with my new toy (the Ipod) and maybe something else thrown in for fun.

Got the idea. Made the post. Waited.

Bounced out of bed to check e-mail. A few PMs, mostly from crazy people, but nothing about donations :frowning:

Phew A donation has saved the day (thanks xander) and thanks to those who have posted in the Ben’s Ipod thread. I really do value your words (as well as your hard earned cash :wink: ) Almost half way folks!!!

Had some lunch with friends and told them about the experiment. They suggested I find a shop that sells the intended ipod-goodness so I can snap it up quick when the target is reached. Went to Dixons which is a fairly well known electrical equipment store. Spent some time looking for the nano so asked the assistant.

“Hi, I can’t seem to find the ipod nanos”

“We don’t sell ipods”

WHAT?!?!?! Why would you choose not to sell one of the biggest mp3 products on the market?

Oh well, the search continues.

Stuck on £85, hoping that the dreams thread will make people dream of me and my plight.

Returned to university woohoo! Have no internet access, bah.

No donations, will have to take drastic measures soon. Am thinking of banning one member on the hour every hour until money is raised. mwahahah.

It seems that I won’t need to take drastic measures because I’ve got a three-way tag team of Gamer, Tab and tentativeon the case! Thanks guys, I appreciate it! Although I’m not entirely convinced by the ethics of the rat execution :wink:

Thankfully…Callum the Rat is safe for now since I just received another £20 donation! How long he is safe for, no-one knows.

Gamer, the thought of getting an ipod shuffle gave me nightmares.

Well it seems that the Ipod thread got sidetracked onto the virtues of killing rats and the implements used to do it. But no matter because today I got…

Woohoo! Only £56.78 to go and I will have a brand spankingly shiny new ipod nano (in black of course, brings out my eyes). I’m trying to find the best deal which will allow me to engrave and comes with the docking station.

The question to ask now is: What music shall I put on the ipod? Feel free to start a thread :wink:

Combined with Paypal fees this will be plenty to buy the Ipod Nano of my dreams. BUT the fun isn’t over yet. I’m going to keep the donations open until I actually get the gadget just in case any of you really wanted to donate but didn’t have the chance to. This will be used to buy lovely ipod accessories :smiley:

ipods aren’t my style i like to get lost with an original cd player and gameboy advanced with a light on my way back home around 12 or 4 o’clock in the morning.
