So I sat down amongst a few religious folks in my community and got into a discussion about Jesus Christ… eventually along the conversation what seemed a simple explaination turned critical as I came up with the question of Where was Jesus from Age Thirteen to Twenty Nine?.. As I got home I pulled up the internet and began looking through some research I had seen on a man known as St. Issa who strongly resembled that of Jesus Christ himself. At the time of St. Issa he was 13 which was also the time in which Jesus himself took his ministry out to the world to spread the word of God… and Oddly enough St. Issa left India when he was around Twenty Nine. And Jesus Returned at age 30 leaving him 1 years travel from his ministry to spread the word. I would like to hear some possible explanations of those of you who are Christians as your theory behind the lost years of Jesus according to the bible.
There are those who believe Jesus traveled to the Far East where he learned of Buddism and then adapted the belief structure to Judaism. When Jesus returned to his homeland, he began preaching what was essentially an adapted version of Buddism. This explains why there’s such a similarity between the two religions.
one of the questions i have about this…
if the manuscript was supposed to be done by ancient indian/nepali scholars, how exactly are they having so much knowledge about Jesus’ death and the subsequent burial? How would these people in Indian know all these details about what happens after Issa leaves and goes back to his homeland? I assume the account is not claiming to be divinely revealed, but simply an account of the teachings and preaching on one Issa while he is in India. just seems a bit sketch to me…maybe if the full text was available somewhere (perferably in my hands with a translator next to me) i would be more convinced. personally, i always figured that Jesus was apprenticing/working as a carpenter during this period, but it is kinda curious to have no mention of what was goin on in this 16-17yr. period.
Imaginary Man- Nobody wrote about that 13-14 year period of Jesus life, therefore, the only possible explanation is that He was doing something outlandish that could be later used to undermine the Christian faith. It’s the only possibility that makes sense.
This makes alot of sense. The Catholic Church did edit out plenty of stuff that wasn’t deemed good for the people to know. One of these things could very likely be things that Jesus shouldn’t do, being Jesus.
Now as humans (yes even Jesus was a human) we all have a wonderful thing called hormones. I don’t think the Pope wants us to know that God’s kids goin around (excuse my cynical tone of this) pimpin on the ladies. It just wouldn’t be good for image. His life in the teenage years was probably none less extraordinary than that of ours.
Well, yeah- he was human too, but he was still God! I’m not really able to picture young Jesus going around with his ballcap on backwards calling himself Kid JayCee, kickin’ it with his bitches and hoes. I’m not buying the big pimpin’, Mac Daddy JC thing.
Was he also pretty fly for a messianic Jewish guy?
All right, brace yourselves. Maybe there is no accounting for Jesus’ life in thoe years because they WEREN’T THAT IMPORTANT! Jesus would have been doing what any self-respecting jewish boy did: learning his father’s trade. Jesus began his ministry at 29-30 and died at 33. In the meantime Jesus was a carpenter like Joseph. It was the culture.
Mark 6:3
Is not this the carpenter, the son of Mary, the brother of James, and Joses, and of Juda, and Simon? and are not his sisters here with us? And they were offended at him.
You have to understand, Jesus is the most important historical figure in all of Western culture. Nearly everybody wants to say something about Him, and nearly everyone has an agenda which could profit from association with Him. The fact that there is a period of His life about which we know nothing (and therefore, can be filled in with anything) is simply too tempting.
I don’t believe Jesus was just out doing what boys do. Remember the story of his parents losing him while on a trip, and then finding him preaching in the temple. He was only 12 then. I believe that Jesus must have been doing something of importance.
Does anyone here believe in the Gnostic Gospels?
