And the “working people” rejected democrats in 2016, 2020 and 2024. Only the elitists and diehard CNN ideologues still support them.
You have no obama to fall back on. Not now anyway.
But don’t worry, this script isn’t over. You will get your time again. Mass mobs and looting, riots and firebombings, murders, insurrections against the evil “other side guys”. Left vs Right, the perfect Hegelian dialectic. To be played one off the other as the middle and common sense and NOT being ideological puppets erodes, until… a synthesis. What is that?
Don’t worry about it. Odds are, none of us writing and reading here will survive the peak violence that will come before any true synthesis occurs.
Keep reading corporate media propaganda and bending over for billionaires and their corporations. And yes the irony is not lost on me, that this is precisely what the political Right is also now doing. But your side been doing it well before worshiping Pfizer and Moderna.
The following quote from Obama reflects a pragmatic view of government, especially the federal government: “The government steps in when the market fails, or when individual or state action isn’t enough to tackle a collective or systemic problem.”
This isn’t a new idea; it actually sits at the heart of the modern liberal democratic state, especially post-Great Depression and post-WWII. Here’s how that perspective typically unfolds:
When the Market Can’t or Won’t Act:
Markets don’t price in long-term societal costs, which basically means they ignore or undervalue those costs unless forced to account for them. Therefore, the government regulates by imposing regulations (e.g. pollution limits), creating incentives or taxes (carbon pricing, subsidies for renewables)
The government provides public goods directly (national parks, healthcare systems, roads, defence, disaster response): No profit incentive means private entities won’t provide them adequately. Markets only reward efficiency and capital, not fairness, so government intervenes through safety nets and civil rights laws.
Climate change, pandemics, and infrastructure planning require foresight and coordination — which markets are not interested in. Large corporations pocket their gains and have government bail them out when they lose.
Examples from History:
1930s New Deal: The market collapsed, and people demanded federal action. Hence, Social Security, labour laws, bank regulation.
1960s Civil Rights: States failed to protect the rights of Black Americans — the federal government had to act.
2008 Financial Crisis: Federal bailouts, stimulus packages, and monetary intervention were needed to prevent collapse.
COVID-19 Pandemic: Only the federal government could coordinate vaccine production, national guidelines, and emergency aid.
None of that addresses what I said, which you quoted me as saying, that the US Constitution expressly forbids the federal government from doing most of that stuff you mentioned. The only problem is, no one cares enough to enforce the law. So we have de facto lawlessness, which Obama is describing as you said.
“Don’t worry, lawlessness is good if it’s for a good cause” is basically your premise. I would strongly disagree. A state that is FUNDAMENTALLY lawless like the US has become, can have no stable, rational or harmonious future. Why? Because the law is the bedrock of the connection between the state and reality. That is why laws exist, the legalized use of force as a right to use force against others which is what the law exists to outline, allow AND prevent. Without that, you just have expediencies of the moment, like your “pragmatic view”. That might be all fine and good for a few things, when you have good leaders, but what happens when the inevitable bad leader comes along and starts doing the same illegal stuff but for bad reasons and with bad outcomes?
Oh, you will just vote them out of office? How? When you have already fundamentally rejected the integrity of the legal system itself. Yet you want to trust that forever into the future the voting system will remain honest and intact as a safeguard for the people against tyrannical abuses by bad leaders?
Sorry but you already made your bed with lawlessness, now you have to sleep in it. Which means NO guarantee of future voting integrity, which also means NO guarantee for any means to peacefully stop a tyrant who gets in charge of your state.
But naw, you don’t care about any of that. Because Obama says its nice to help out in a tough situation!
Seriously… the utter lack of logic and common sense mirrors the lack of respect for the law and why government adherence to the law is actually super important as integral to the continuation of a functioning, rational and peaceful society. The way it’s supposed to work is: everyone agrees to follow the law AND if someone breaks the law they are convicted as a criminal; THEN, if you don’t like some specific law (maybe because it impedes your precious pragmatic expediency) then its on YOU to get that law changed.
If Obama or whoever else wanted to use the federal government for all these illegal uses, they first should have worked to change the US Constitution in such a way as would allow them to do those things. Go through the actual process. But naw, they never do that. Why would a criminal follow the law, after all?
In two separate posts, you have claimed that
""Obama’’ was lawlessness incarnate…
Please fill in the dots and show us exactly how Obama
was lawless… where exactly did he act with lawlessness?
give concrete examples of Obama acting with lawlessness…
it is an empty charge without some examples,
Well that’s one way of looking at it.
But he’s not really attacking them. True Musk is just cancelling them, and putting important institutions out of work; such as terminating the Department of Education; Science Research; International Aid; FAA etc… But its hard to equate these things as things that “rejected” him. He is certainly paranoid.
And the other way of looking at it whilst he tanks the economy to the tune of $6 trillion AND COUNTING, is that he’s just an attention seeking 3 yo baby.
He was “rejected” by the liberal democratic establishment. A convicted felon who likely would have convicted of other crimes had he not been elected he is amoral, he doesn’t believe he has ever done anything wrong. He’s “perfect” as he often says. Those who find fault with him have Trump Derangement Disorder from his point of view.
Clearly Emperor Trump has no clothes. Will the MAGA cult wake up before the Orange Piped Piper leads the country into disaster?
From the New York Times ## Trump backed down on tariffs
Just hours after President Trump imposed steep tariffs on dozens of America’s trading partners, he reversed course. The president announced this afternoon that nearly all of his so-called reciprocal tariffs would be paused for 90 days.
The stock market reacted with glee, rebounding after a week of sharp declines. The S&P 500 ended the day up 9.5 percent, its largest daily increase since 2008. The tariffs, which Trump had raised to the highest level in a century, had caused economists to warn of recession risks.
Still, Trump made clear that he is not backing entirely away from the levies. He said that imports from China, which sharply retaliated today, will face an even higher 125 percent tariff, up from a 104 percent figure proposed yesterday. Other countries would face a universal 10 percent tariff — a meaningful fee, but far lower than the tariff that most of them had been subject to this morning.
White House officials repeatedly tried to suggest that today’s change in policy was a premeditated strategy designed to secure favorable deals. But Trump himself acknowledged that his decision was made in response to the market turmoil, particularly in the bond market. “You have to be flexible,” the president said. “Over the last few days, it looked pretty glum.”
To add to the uncertainty, the president said he might consider exempting some U.S. companies from the tariffs over the 90-day pause period. He said his thinking on the issue would be made “instinctively.”
This guy does not know what he’s doing. The clown is driving the car and unfortunately we the people are in backseat. We may need to grab the wheel before he drives us off a cliff.
