Can we progress until everybody has the most accurate picture of reality?
I understand there are gaps in education, economic circumstances, etc., that might prevent such from happening. But it seems that we can’t make the real decisions that will benefit us, such as whether there should be a limit to how many kids we can have, and who can have them, what the best system of government is, what the goal for humanity is, etc.
Many people don’t realize that we are part of an ongoing experiment as a species that happened to gain intelligence through evolution, and now it’s up to us to figure out the best way to utilize it, what we want to do with it, etc.
Do you think we can even begin to have the right kinds of discussions until everybody realizes the reality of our situation?
I can’t envision this happening. Polarization of thought will never allow that to happen. It will probably take a cataclysmic situation like 911 to get everyone close to being on the page enough to get them to realize our situation. Then the blame game will star all over again and so will discontent.
Hello dorkydood, there is a contradiction in your assumption I am afraid to tell you don’t get pissed. This experiment as a species is already functioning under the very strictest limitations, called the survival of the fittest for short but which actually is a bafflingly elaborate set of ‘morals’ like don’t breathe under water or don’t stick food up your nose. Most of them have become reflexes and that is what will happen to every limit we impose that works out for the best.
But the perplexing thing about the natural order of things is that whenever we block one path of which we know it leads to bad stuff, two or more others appear that we don’t know nothing about.
If you want to attempt to narrow down the species you will be natures fool.
