When the 1st Amendment was included in the United States Constitution in 1791, Thomas Jefferson realized that it represented a serious conflict of Church and State. In effect the Constitution and the New Testament contradicted each other. This being so, he rewrote the New Testament and removed all inferences to Christ’s divinity from it.
