I don’t think that any credibility is lost by using that + I think it gives an insight into the emotional state of a poster, which adds to the meaning of what a person is trying to convey.
I say lol out loud with a straight face sometimes to indicate that the joke was lame.
Every gun that is made, every warship launched , every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed lol, those who are cold and are not clothed rofl.
I like to believe that people in the long run are going to do more to promote peace than our governments, lol.
When LOL is used like giving someone the finger it always seems fake to me. (For example - “lol. Did you really think that made sense.”)
When it is used as a compliment it seems honest, but as an insult, a pose.
Likewise emoticons.

people who say society has sped up give a “keeping up with the times, disdain shrug” I equate this to having a humble passive attitude while sinking in quicksand. Don’t you dare grasp or claw your way out! You’ll offend the CEO at Quicksand Co. “You’ll only make it worse!” being their slogan.
The “Inevitable We’re Screwedism” is the most prevalant belief system going at the moment and gaining ground as just another fact.
people who say society is becoming “too fast” or a blur, those people will be locked in a cage in a museum that people fly over and look down at from their flying car. A pesky ant ariel view.
