Does anyone have an idea of what it is? Does it even need a meaning? Or is it because were selfish? Think about it, almost everything we do in life has a meaning; we just don’t do random pointless stuff. Most of those meanings are for us. An example the meaning of me buying this food is to satisfy my hunger. Since we have so much want we create so many objectives with so many meanings. Then after some time everything we do has to have some sort of meaning because we want something out of it.
I read the perfect simple answer for the question of “what is the meaning of life”. It was to live it.
I don’t think it has any meaning, I see it more like a circumstance, an arrangement. While I’m here I’d like to to accumulate as many experiences as I can and to find happiness- I don’t think it’s something you’re born with, you have to work at it.
But when we talk about meaning, we mean to say does it have eternal relevance. Should the sun suddenly go supernova and all life was exstinquished, then what was the ultimate meaning of life. That is usually where the question of ‘meaning’ is referenced from. Not our own personal meaning but in a cosmic objective sense. IOW, was it meaniful for us to have meaning.
This begs the question because life is living. It still doesn’t answer the question of meaning in the objective. Nice quote though.
Yeah, I was chillin with a friend yesterday and he mentioned something about the possible manned mission to Mars. Looking up at the night sky he said “there’s no road outta here, man” and sighed. I wanted to cheer him up with talk about future civilizations on the moon, Mars, and in space stations. Though I realized that in the event of a supernova the entire solar system would be devoured, and held my tongue.
Part of me wants to say that in 4.6 million years mankind will have developed something to sustain him through a long period of time traveling to another solar system. Our sun has a lot of life left, and I think science will come up with something before it burns out.
Still this becomes boring. Human civilization spreads throughout the galaxy and then what? If we are still shopping at Circuit City, eating fast food, taking the kids to the soccer game, and getting a second mortgage on our house, then we’ve only merely expanded and not evolved. I want to be a spirit form that can manifest itself through any material substratum within any universe, damn you! Physical life, with all its health problems, aging, and physical limitation makes animalisitc life rather boring.
im sorry about that message that was my friend who dosnt enjoy debating so it will appear i am argueing with myself.
Well we are living our lives because we must enjoy debating this subject if we are on this website doing so. Your veiws on debating are different so you see it as sad.
