The Modern Male

What should the cornerstones be for defining a typical modernised male?

Commercialisation?
Occupation?
Competition?
Dominance?
Intelligence?
Television?
Money?

What are your thoughts on this?

competitiom, television and money…unfortunately not intelligence, occupation and real dominance for the great majority…

I don’t know from males, we have resident experts for that. My experience as a female is that some days the list is filled with superlatives, others days it’s more pragmatic…like ‘that which is eternally incapable of putting the damned seat down’.

But ‘typical’ is going to end up with the creation of long lists. I think it’s more efficient to define the ‘typical’ in terms of what distinguishes it from the ‘unusual’. And I’d say the defining characteristics of the unusual are wisdom and awareness and courage.

Once in a blue moon, such a male is born.

Responsibility

You know what really pisses me off? When females leave the toliet seat down. Why cant they get it through their head?

People should be statistically accounted for according to their potential for productivity and counterproductivity. The means is science. To what ends and by what boundaries is philosophy. Answering your question seems like a shot in the dark. But you deserve an answer.

I don’t know if you’re suggesting multiple choice, or using examples as guidelines. Right now, I say intelligence (perhaps use Mensa as the authority). It defines most of the other concepts with some rigidity, and would also stress productivity using technology. I’m curious to your choice for using the male figure as the subject in question. Because you do, I should add . . .

I suppose what would make males unique as a role in society’s production as (please forgive me for being so dark here)- a former abuser trying to reconcile through slavery. Unfair? Maybe. Just a conception (and I am a guy.) Indeed, the post-modern approach to males is that they’ve lost an important role of power (you simply did not build as well, protect as well, abuse as well, without the muscle. That isn’t so true now). So to find a new role in this social-technological culture- males need to be maternal, empathetic, organized, sophisticated.

Some ancient cultural traditions may apply. One person (emotionally, generally a stable male. Physically, many possible choices) . . . is selected in a community as its “protector.” That is: The community still relies on government enforcement, but due to lack of technology, sometimes a more present community member needs to take part of the reigns. If everyone takes them, everyone takes unnecessary risk. If one person shows drive and performance to the task, then the few can offer service to the many.

I look forward to the concept that ancient chivalry (which may not have been so heroic in its own time) is applied to modern day. Suppose if I have a family- I’m the “man of the house” which entitles me to NO dominance, but gives me a new responsability. I protect my wife and daughters, and die to protect them before escaping like a captain that may not leave the sinking ship. Certainly, any woman could desire and live out the same role as well.

What really pisses me off is that I can’t rent cheaply because there are factors of discomfort and risk regarding “slipping” or “bumping” that need to be incorporated into the safety, into the bill. Meanwhile, three quarters of the world shits in a river and we seem content with it.
