I thought it would be an interesting exercise to create a new religion, something that would appeal to the broad and frankly unusual (if not fucked up) user base that is ILP. Strictly speaking this is philosophy, so move it there if needs must.
Now I’m not going to be the new Messiah of this religion, but to get things off to a start I will plant one idea, and see how we roll… The new religion has to understand the flaws in human nature and not assign blame because we are animals. Vague and contentious, but let’s see where it leads if indeed anywhere…
Every “canon” anyone comes out with is subject to argument, incessant talk, digression, belief and hopefully imagination… and the more so the better. So let’s have it guys and gals, what is the NEW religion?

Becoming responsible for yourself. So we will begin to make all men of this world, and the next, Postchristian men, responsible for themselves. We will usher in a new master morality that will change the whole face of this planet, into manifestations of the making of mankind. Man is king. Man will replace and become God as God is our ideal. This new formulation of God we will call Gray.
This is fantastic Trajicomic, we will call our “God” Gray, we have a name and ideal and a creed already.
Our first commandment isn’t to be good or whatever, it’s to take responsibility for yourselves. Genuinely like that, it’s new and it doesn’t rely on just saying Gray be with us, we’ll all just follow the Gray, because that’s just shit.
Well it seems common sense, doesn’t it, that one cannot become Good without first becoming responsible for distinguishing and judging goodness? Similarly, one cannot become Evil without first becoming responsible for distinguishing and judging evilness. It is to become responsible for both good AND evil that sets the moral heart apart from the immoral. Isn’t it most immoral to commit a crime of passion, without forethought or insight, and to never understand the consequences of your actions? Isn’t it “better”, morally sound, to rationalize and justify your passions BEFORE you commit to good or evil deeds alike?
We should rather say that evilness is irresponsibility. I think then, even the Nietzscheans will agree with my Postchristian faith, that going beyond Good and Evil is the first step to any kind of morality, any kind of justification, and any kind of life worth living. Responsibility is the beginning of faith, of morality, of ethics, of dogma, of creed.
I envision…a whole nation of Christ Men, men becoming RESPONSIBLE for themselves and the world around them, men of moral conscience. I envision boys becoming MEN, becoming capable of knowing good and evil, and then choosing RIGHTLY which path they will take to power, to realize their wills to power. Evil is just as necessary as good. One cannot truly stop a murderer without murdering him.
Otherwise we continually forgive a child rapist and murderer forever, forever HOPING that we can “cure” him somehow. But how much faith will we put into a child, that the child knows good from evil, or evil from bad? Children will never know the difference. And this is why some criminals may not even deserve the right of death, of righteous execution, of burning at the stake. Only men can know such a righteous judgment and punishment.
Fire cleanses Sin. We know this. Even Satan has his uses…to punish the irresponsible, the truly evil in Hell forever. Because what is Hell? Hell is never knowing. Hell is never becoming a man. Hell is never becoming responsible. Hell is never choosing good or evil. Hell is remaining a child forever.
Good point. We don’t just judge good and evil, we judge morality on more than trite old fashioned ideals.
Man you are being creative at a high level. This is all good. So we basically think evil has to exist because without it good is meaningless, trite but true, but Christianity of course has stumbled over this point for millenia. We also expect men (have to say or women for PC) to be of moral conscience, then using such a sublime tool to become better, or more powerful than they would be by rejecting a simple idea. So how do we teach our new people to find a common path to morality, whatever that is?
Ok well it’s a good idea to burn the incorrigible at the stake. How do we judge who is incorrigible though?
Hell’s a bastard of a concept, men often never grow up, as a mature person I am well aware of this. This is tricky, what makes a man (or woman PC again)?
By the way anyone who thinks I’m trying to make some comment on religion that is later to be clever is wrong, can’t predict what dreams may come. This is just an exercise.
We study morality, good, evil. We apply these concepts to reason and inquiry. We study Gray. We study responsibility. We study moral consequences and outcomes of unforeseen actions. We study forgiveness, repentance, meditation. We study humility and pride. We put all of these keywords through the ringers. We run them through an obstacle course crafted by the cynics, skeptics, and Nietzscheans. We put it all in the masher, have a philosopher eat it all up and digest it, then we watch the asshole and see what type of shit pops out.
We get our hands dirty, like Nietzsche said. We engage “dirty” morality, the “not fun” morality, the “responsible” morality.
Let us begin by imagining ourselves in the image of Christ. We take all the world onto our shoulders, as only men can, and we become responsible for everything. We begin to stack the stones high on our shoulders. For we are the devout to God. He has passed this message of responsibility onto us, men, mankind. We do not stack the stones, the boulders, high onto women and children. Because we expect much less of them. We expect much less of slaves, and other races. Let us stack the stones as high as possible, and see which MEN can rise under the burden. This is the truest form of religion. God’s Law…Gray’s Law.
If a man is evil, and caught for his evilness, say murder, then he ought to take responsibility for his crime. How do we raise the sons of our nation to become responsible for ALL, for everything? Consider this, Calrid. A strange man murders a random child in a small town. And they find another strange man, and convict him. Who is “responsible” for the crime? The new Christ Men should all step forward because WE ARE ALL RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL GOOD AND ALL EVIL. Everything, is on us. Everything, right or wrong, good or evil, falls upon us. The soul of the Christ Man is heavier than all others, stronger than all others.
And if the judge will convict either strange men, maybe one is guilty and one is innocent, still all the Christ Men will step forward, hundreds, and say “We all are responsible for this murder, this evil. We all must do more to rectify the evil, and prevent its uprising. We all, as Christ Men, are responsible.”
And then, the “murderer”, will step backward from this group, in shame. Because he is not part of Christ Men. He is incapable of responsibility. And this lack of responsibility is the very essence and nature of guilt, and shame, anyway! He will bow his head and shame, and run away from the town. Why is he so guilty? Because he knowingly murdered a child. And he was not a “man” enough, to accept his Sin.
This is the true nature of evil, this irresponsibility to accept blame, to accept guilt, to accept responsibility. And the Christ Men will still continue to RECTIFY SIN. Because this is the spiritual, the TRUE moral nature, of man. This is the Man made in God’s Good Image, for good or evil.
I will never claim that Christ Men are not capable of evil. Man is capable of evil. We expect this of men. Men are murderers, rapists, warmongers, thieves, liars. We are. But the Christ Men will at least accept this fact, this truth, and accept the risk of his committing evils. Yes, a Christ Man can become evil, as he can become good. But to do so knowingly…

We need a new religion like we need a hole in our heads. We’ve already got more than we need.
And while on the surface religion seems to be a good thing, religion is more divisive on the earth than race. And look at all the trouble differences of race has caused us.
Personally I’d like to see a world without any religion at all.
But that’s not possible. Cuz history shows that religion and mythology has been embedded in our DNA since the first humans. Erase all the religions off the face of the earth and we’d just invent news ones.

Thinking about it, it was a bad idea, but that said, is there ever really a bad idea you have just before you go to bed? And in that sleep what dreams may come. Well none I remember actually, which is unusual…?
I don’t know if I’d become an atheist … but living a life free of religion is attractive to me.
I know it’s in me, but can’t it be channeled to just living a life, related to the cosmos thru nature and internal reference, and such … without religion?
