The Oscar's

How many of you actually watch the Oscar’s?
I have watch it for over 25 years pretty religiously
except when it clash with the NCAA tournament.
There is no chance of watching it when the NCAA is
on. Sports above all is my motto.
Anyway, do you even plan ahead to watch it?

Kropotkin

no.

I’d rather eat haggis or tripe. And even after being forced to eat those I still wouldn’t watch the self promotion of fake heroes.

Bunch of self-important people slapping each other on the back?

Think I’ll pass again this year as I do every year.

Yeah, it can be pretty dull.

I’ve tuned in for Chris Rock’s opening in the last few years. I can’t imagine John Stewart being too amusing though.

K: the key is really having a good host, David letterman sucked,
and thus the show sucked, billy crystal is good and thus the show
is good. It is all about the host.

They are entertainers, and the oscars are also merely entertainment.
For the unwashed MTV masses, the watered down pop culture based comedy and the pseudo-suspense that acompanies the ‘big moment’ when you get to see who get’s to have the honor of being given a hearty golf-clap /this year/ qualifies.
I however would find better entertainment elsewhere.
An example would be staring blankly at my wall.
Or walking on molten lead.

I haven’t seen any of the nominated films, but I am going to watch it anyway.

I have an review of brokeback mountain, in the reviews section.
I did not care for the film at all. Not because of the topic matter,
but based on the fact if you changed one character from
man to women, the film is not longer a big deal, it is simply
an soap opera.

I’m keenly interested in the results, but the program itself can be boring. In the past I’ve watched it, but nowadays I don’t really have the time to mess with it. I’ll check the 'net afterwards to see who wins.

who “won” doesn’t matter…

hollyweird keeps producing shit

Wow, what a shock, Crash won. And I can’t believe that song won best song.

Crash seemed like a movie that was made 40 years to late, or by paranoid black people.

What is is about?

Ostensibly about racism but there was much, much more to it. Really it’s about seeing oneself in the other. Beautiful movie, very well made, and deserving of Best Picture. Glad the Oscars finally got something right.

In my opinion crash is a movie that assumes that everyone is a massive racist, in an attempt to be anti-racist.

Every other word out of the characters’ mouths was some racist comment and I didn’t find that in accord with reality. I know all kinds of criminals and poor people and yet out of the whites I can think of one older lady that freely used the word “nigger” and no Hispanic people at all. Lots of black people use the word, but in a way that’s rather pathetic.

Anyway, the movie was written by a guy from Canada where 1% of the population is black and it’s my suggestion that the movie is a middle-class dream of what racism is like in the US.

Sounds about right. The resentful writer of Brokeback Mountain made some comment about America not wanting it’s cowboys gay that to me smacked of throwing the toys out of the pram. Perhaps if he’d written a screenplay about a slightly less 1970s topics he might have got a happier result.

Yes, some of these subjects seem like things that people were hot about when they were 15 and now that they’re 45 they can finally make it into a movie!

Opps, too late.

We all really know that the issue is pretty dead because not much was heard about the film. It was just a film.

Now if the North American Man Boy Love Association made a film that would get a big reaction. Because that’s a hot and wild topic that would shock people.

Racism based on appearance is a dead topic.

  1. Obviously, the movie on the whole went right over your head. You just didn’t get it.

  2. No, racism based on appearance isn’t a dead topic. Tell that to everyone of middle-eastern decent living in the U.S.

Exactly. And plus Crash isn’t about that brand of outright rascism that was permiating the country 40 years ago its about those festering feelings that people keep inside for fear of seeming politally incorrect. Its the way that people talk but don’t want people to think they talk that way.

I guess not. The power to destroy a planet is insignificant next to the power of the Farce…

Wait… nevermind. It’s gone now. I guess hokey religions and ancient weapons really aren’t as good as a blaster by your side.
