The Phaedrus

Hey everyone,
I have been studying philosophy for a few years, but only recently have I really been trying to focus on ancient philosophy, especially Plato. I just finished reading his Phaedrus and have a few questions and comments for anyone who’s interested.
First of all, I understand that a main theme in the dialogue was that of the soul. However, i couldnt really see how speech, truth, and love (also main themes in the Phaedrus) were really connected to Plato’s view of the soul. My only inclination is that they have something to do with what the soul is supposed to do (it’s goal) or maybe how these things can enable or hinder it from reaching this goal.

Lastly, A few months ago i read the eastern philosophical work the Bhagavad Gita. I noticed that there seems to be some similarities in these two novels, especially in how there are different ways for the soul to achieve its goal.

Thanks everyone for any insight.
