The philosophy of Tupac

Ok first off, I’m not sure he actually has a philosophy. But, he said a lot of the same things that some smart cats have said. And since he speaks the language of the downtrodden, I think he had a social impact on a demographic in the US that led to a whole bunch of people doing the right thing, but becoming criminals in the process. I’ll be back to this thread. Lemme come up with something here.

At first it appears to be wisdom, street smarts, quick wit, but under it all is a tard having to do crimes to live. I say 2pac is an anti-philosopher.

Tupac may have taught the philosophy, but he didn’t teach one the skills, and I’m well aware of what you think of people who follow the philosophy but don’t have the skills.

Dan maybe it was a crime that he had to commit the crimes.

What do I think about em?

It should have been one.

What would Tupac think about the new guns laws that went into effect today in Alabama?

You can tell me what your thought process on the subject is at this very fleeting moment, but the stance you were taking earlier was that it’s ok to do things that are seemingly reckless if one has the skills not to fuck up. If they don’t have the skills - which seems to be an attribute you only have a criteria for determining through hindsight - and they still follow Tupac’s/your philosophy and fuck up, they are suddenly more or less God’s curse to humanity. I realize that your argument wasn’t for illegal actions specifically, but also to be included for people who would legally carry a gun in public.

I’m only going where your logic infers. Some of these people you praise for doing the right thing while becoming a criminal fuck up and hurt innocent bystanders. But, according to you they are unskilled and therefore supposedly inherently evil for following Tupac’s most persuasive philosophizing.

But, I’m not going to try to use words you spoke, so long ago as a week or two from now, against you in an argument. Please, tell me the views on the evils and virtues of society that you hold at this particular instant.

Hey I don’t make the rules man. I think you should be able to tell whether you’re about to fuck something up. That’s like, some kinda personal responsibility thing. A lot of people are into that.

Ok, is this joke ever going to get old for you? You know very well that you can’t find a perfect balance between self-interest and social responsibility. I used to respect how you spoke of the way you manage to live well without worrying about following some norms and I at least had some respect that all the while you did that you were helping some people and generally not causing anyone much inconvenience.

But, I didn’t think you would take it so far. Some say bad drivers should lose their license even if it means they couldn’t drive to work; my opinion on that as a general issue not being relevant, but if I or a friend of mine -such as yourself - were a terrible driver I would hope that they could keep their license and thereby keep there job even if it meant they were putting people on the road at risk.

So many of the things you describe that you do to help yourself and your friends have at least the equivalent risk to innocent bystanders as does a bad driver, but I don’t judge you for that. You on the other hand seem to be ready to judge anyone. It hardly seems laid back, as Silhouette described you, and I have to wonder what your response will be when someone uninvolved gets hurt while you were doing any specific thing you do to make money. You may call it an unlikely chance incident, but surely you know others won’t see it that way.

Excellent rapper - love his voice.

What do you mean by that demographic comment?

Stuart, when something good happens, you take credit for it. When something bad happens, you call it nature.

Anon, I mean people who were born intelligent and poor, or people who can relate to the things that he said. There’s a whole nation of fuckers out there who are currently not being represented in popular music.

I mean, what does “a whole bunch of people doing the right thing, but becoming criminals in the process” refer to? Just curious.

Are films that have criminal heroes raising the same issue?
The various Butch Cassidy films.
Heat.
The Bank Job.

In some the heroes meet bad ends, but in many, they thrive, with the girl and the Money.

Man when you fight the power, you usually have to break the law. Can’t even protest most places without a permit.

I think when he says, “and it’s a trip how we clown when we fuck sluts, bust nuts then I cut that’s my new thang, and mothafuckers gotta do thangsssss” it’s just poetry at it’s finest.

Also, “fuck tha mystery do you wanna get with me? then let’s bone”. Or, “I’d rather die young than die old and broke. That’s why I stay drunk and I constantly smoke.” Beautiful stuff.

Tupac was like the black American ubermench. Or like the John Lennon of rap. Or something like that.

Here’s one he did about ethics and religion or something…

Oh, gotcha. Sorry I’m dense sometimes.
