If you were to take what could be the most important four + years of your life and boil it down to one statement, one admission of your goal in life… what would it be?
I was once talking to my High School English teacher Dr. Spect, about a student we had both known who had graduated a year before me. His name was Bill and he had been an excellent student up until his senior year when he became very disillusioned and bitter. Bill had been a student of Dr. Spect when he stopped caring about school. Bill attended class but never did any homework and he skipped all the tests. Dr. Spect become frustrated with Bill and finally confronted him in private as to why Bill was attending this class if he wasn’t going to do any of the work. Bill replied, “I come here to learn.” And Dr. Spect would recall with amusement that he had to restrain his urge to throttle the kid. “Learn?!?!†At that moment coming to school to learn seemed absurd. “Nobody comes to school just to learn!â€
