Apparently, US or Korean Troops in the DMZ has been pointing our search lights for prolonged periods of time at North Korean positions… Media is trying to pass it off as provacation by the North Koreans, but that’s bullshit.
Here is the reason why… My guard towers in Iraq, Triangle of Death during the height of the surge… Didn’t use any, in the visible light spectrum… We use night vision optics at night, in a few different parts of the spectrum, most famous being NODs, which give us that stupid green light you see on TV. The infared lights you can buy commercially isn’t quite the same, but good enough.
We have floodlights, but they have a infared filter on them, so we can see it with the NODs, but someone without Night Vision wouldn’t be aware it is shining hard on them.
I can understand how pissed local commanders on the opposite side of the DMZ would be. Im not saying get rid of the visible light flood lights, cause if they use their own, it would blind our NODs, leaving us without a way to see them running over…but don’t be shitheads in your use of equipment. Some platoon sargent or company CO neess his ass reamed out for needless provocation… whatever jibber jabber Kim Jong Un says at his level, isn’t going to get the North Koreans hating the US or South anymore than the propaganda that has been flowing out of North Korea since the Korean War already has. Just let those guys due their mandated conscription time, keep your head low so the high tempered hotshots don’t shoot you, and hold the god damned fucking line in peace. We don’t need triggering a new Korean War cause some dipshit from Nebraska wanted to show how fucked up it would be if he just shunned his lights on a DPRK machine gun position for hours at a time. I’m surprised the North Koreans were restrained enough to use the chain of command and send a warning to knock that shit off, or they will respond with measured force… they aren’t supposed to be the mature and restrained party on the DMZ, we are.
