Do you guys really believe Hume when he says that we are nothing but a bundle of perceptions? Sure we have opinions about things and strong, emotional beliefs in others…sometimes so strong that we can only call it instinct…what about the desire to live? the desire to make something of ourselves…do you think that it is something conditioned into us by our parents and the state from an early age…or do you think it is a natural, evolved state of mind that makes us feel this way?

logically, hume is correct…
but even he admitted that one does not live ones life as if they themselves were nothing but disconnected moments…

these desires are metaphysically superficial. What you want makes no difference to what is.

I’d have to go with Ainslie on this one, we are many selves competing for reward discounting at steeply bowed curves.
